Re: RFOM Single player (Review Thread)

Well I have given it 7 out out 10. I was thinking 8 but after playing the game online a bit and not really getting into it I cant give it 8.

The single player is solid if unspectacular, if you like fps like me is definately worth playing but there are quite a few problems with it. Some of my main griopes, indestructible jeeps and buddys.

Very linear gameplay - only one path through levels. The graphics are good but not as good as I was expecting really. I have got to the stage where I can only play the single player for around 20 minutes before getting bored of it.

A great game you cant put down for hours (Half Life 2, Gears of War, Halo etc)

Its worth buying and playing the 40 players online lag free is to be commended but the lack of unified online system, friends lists, acheivements and no one using voice comms makes for a very sterile experience. I have not been enjoying the online games I have had on this so far. Another thing, where are the vehicles in the multiplayer ?

Re: RFOM Single player (Review Thread)

I gave it 9.

I'm really enjoying it. I'm on Cheddar Gorve it looks amazing.

There aren't any control issues (surprising with the pad).

Sound is good, I'm interested by the story and the cutscenes aren't irritating.

Would do a more detailed review but gotta go to work...

Based on the above and comments like "very linear gameplay" "solid if unspectacular" "I can only play the single player for around 20 minutes before getting bored of it" how could you be on the verge of giving it 8/10. Based on the above surely 6/10 (average) would be more fitting.

I would give it 7/10 mainly because its only one of 2 games currently getting on the ps3. 6/10 as a FPS cross platform.

Re: RFOM Single player (Review Thread)

Gave it an 8. Finished it last night. Really enjoyed it, only gave it an 8 and not a 9 or 10 due to the fact that on most levels you just charge in guns blazing.

But yeah, for a launch game I thought it was spectacular and it's not very often that I stick with a game all the way through to the end (Condemned was the last one a year ago on the 360!)

Re: RFOM Single player (Review Thread)

Gave it a 7 offline, but I'd give it a 9 online. Not perfect online but that is where it shines. Story mode is acceptable and better than many games of this type. Graphics are good but not spectacular, mechanics and gameplay work very well. Weapons are varied but not as much as the Ratchet and Clank games. If it was a a little less linear and had a bit more polish and variability I'd bump the score. Loved the start of Manchester where you are charging in against an army of Chimera with your troops. Bits like that really stand out.

There are some great offline areas that would be perfect as online maps. I personally vote for a multiplayer player version of cheddar gorge complete with two players in the jeep, and manned gun turrets

Re: RFOM Single player (Review Thread)

By the way, why is the poll asking us to rate the single player aspect of the game only? RFOM is a game where you're likely to spend 10-15 hours in offline single player and 100+ hours in online multiplayer so scoring the single player only seems a bit pointless.

Re: RFOM Single player (Review Thread)

Good point. I gave it 8/10 but the online part is a definite 10/10.
