Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 PS3 Reviews

It took me too long to generate the poll and thus it wouldn't let me post it.

Sorry!

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 PS3 Reviews

Get the poll sorted, someone.

Well, I have to say I'm pretty disappointed by the SP. Very arcade-y in feel and in the more action packed scenes more down to luck than anything.

Some nice atmosphere created but I thought Half Life 2 did it all better.

MP looks better and I guess that is where this game is at. Still enjoying Uncharted 2 a lot better though. Maybe when my mate gets his copy of MW2 and we try some co-op spec ops I'll warm to it more.

My main impression is of a massively over-hyped game though.

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 PS3 Reviews

SP: Some really impressive looking set pieces and IW have decided not to use the old infinite enemy spawn trick from previous COD games which is a nice bonus. It is very short though (no surprises there). On easy setting it probably only takes about 4 hours to complete, maybe less if you skip some of the cinematics and run through some of the levels (the invisible triggers are still there).

Spec Ops: A nice addition to the game. 69 challenges in total (time trials, co-op missions, etc.) - this might take some time to complete and I guess makes up for the SP game being so short.

MP: This is where it's at. It's not perfect but there's something magical that keeps us all coming back for more... even when the servers are messed up, the invite system doesn't work properly, and everyone moans about campers!

Overall, I'd give it a 9 (if the poll was working!). It would get a 10 if the SP was longer and some of the more obvious problems with MP had been fixed BEFORE the game was launched... I reckon it'll be a couple of weeks before the cheats find out how to glitch on some of the maps, it's inevitable really.

Dropping to an 8 : I finished the single player and SpecOps a couple of weeks ago (both to 100%), I got all the trophies, etc. so there's no point playing these any more so all that's left is the online stuff. There's still all the problems that used to spoil COD4 (lag, bad hit detection, dropping into games as they're about to finish, "unlocalized" errors, etc.) plus a few more thrown in for good measure. MW2 doesn't have the "just one more game" addictiveness of COD4. At times it just feels annoying and frustrating. And I still get headaches if I play it for more than a couple of hours.

Dropping to a 7 (and edging towards a 6) : I don't bother playing this game anymore, a bit disappointing as it's not even two months old. One of the updates seems to have introduced additional lag into multiplayer, there's all the cheaters to contend with, some of the maps are frustrating, and I just wasn't enjoying it.

Well I'm really enjoying the MP at the moment. SP if far too short and not really very exciting at all I thought.

I'd probably give this an 8 but once the polls up might even go for a 7.

It's a good game but nothing that blows me away. I'm only really enjoying MP because there are lots of BFaM playing, if it was me & Randoms I'd probably hate it.

Sounds a bit contradicting all that... Think what I'm saying is the game for me isn't that great, just good. But because of the online banter and teamwork it's masking that and making me enjoy it!

I would give the MP/SP both an 8 at a push, been hitting the MP pretty hard just gone prestige and have to say its a bit of a chore, no matter what gameplay type you play it's played all the same, needless to say it's getting abit boring, not to mention the lag and poor matchmaking...

Agree with all this.

Would probably get an 8 from me.

Not really sure what i'd rate it.

mw2 was a massive dissappointemnt for me.

I loved cod4, the campaign was great, the missions were memorable, all ghillied up was great.

The multiplayer was simple but addictive.

Oh wait hold on this is a mw2 review thread

Right the campaign felt random, and they just tried making it hectic for no damn reason.

The multiplayer feels like they all sat down threw some ideas out and all of them were used in the game

I played the multiplayer til I got to rank 60 so I'd say I played it enough.

I've now traded it in and don't regret it one bit.

To be honest the SP wasn't good, not at all. Going on the fact that I gave Uncharted 2 - 10, Uncharted - 9 (Just about a 10 tho), I believe that MW2 deserves maybe a 6ish going on 7.

MP, yeah greatly structured menus which are simple to use and customizable tags etc. But when actually forgetting that there's no Dedicated servers... the maps aren't good and it doesn't feel good when you kill.

Visuals aren't great at all and the engine feels outdated in my opinion, soundtrack was not in anyway good even after hiring an OST giant that is Hans Zimmer!

Longetivity - I don't see it, yeah great you can do some special ops a thousand times and Singleplayer again and again, but there's nothing there that makes you wanting more of it... Multiplayer is the only thing and that's boring me quicker than waiting for paint to dry in it's pot.

Its a 7 for me.

The more I play it the more underwhelmed and dissapointed I am.

SP - the story just doesn't grab me at all unlike MW. They have tried to make everything more dramatic and over the top, but this has resulted in the opposite effect on me and made the game feel unrealistic, especially the American suburb level which felt more like an Alien disaster B movie.

MP - I haven't played much of this, the reason is simple - it just doesn't compare at all to Bad Company. In fact once Bad company 2 is released I don't think I'll ever go near MW2.

Still no poll?

Personally i really like mw2. All i wanted from it was cod4 but with new maps. However to me it feels like a new improved cod4, bigger maps, better graphics, new weapons, new perks...

I really enjoyed the single player, massive set pieces and some great moments. A bit short admittedly.

Special Ops is a neat addition too.

The multiplayer is the main part of the game for me though, and that is superb. Yes it's difficult as there are a lot of good players about, but I enjoy a challenge, and also it's great fun to play with online mates. The silly titles and emblems are just a bit of fun too.

All in all i'd give it an 8.5 rounded up to a 9.
EDIT: changed my mind, it's even better than that, it's a 9.5/10 from me! The only thing i can mark it down on is the short single player part.

it took a little while for me to get into it.now though the multiplayer side of it is amazing.love the perks and the air packages, etc,.ive not really played single player.

but online was a slow starter, but now it blows cod4 out of the water.

10/10.

Another short review :

Gameplay: Nil change, though I must say the AI has improved tremendously since the last one (I don't remember being flanked so often in the last one).

Plot: Ridiculous, at least the first one was mildly plausible

Single Player: Hmmmmmmm £50ish for 5 hrs worth of game?

Multiplayer: Too laggy for me to enjoy and I was never matched up with others as crap as me (being constantly shot every 10s because the game sticks you into lobbies where everyone else appears to be John Rambo means the game stops being fun).
The single most important thing IW could've done to improve this was to be more strict with matching, ie. something like only match with people at your level +/- 1 at most.
That with the aforementioned lag made me stick to single player mainly

Graphics: nil change

Content: Nothing new

Overall: despite my griping, it was enjoyable (all 5 hrs of it ) but I traded it in as soon as I completed it. I'm also not a trophy whore so re-visiting games purely for "teh playtnuom" is something I rarely (if ever) do - so after completing Single Player, I had no reason to hold onto it.

I will give it a generous 6/10 though (bearing in mind the first one got 9/10 from me)

Single player 5/10 - pretty average.

Competitive multiplayer 8/10 - pretty good but the lack of dedicated servers is inexcusable for a £55 game. There is no excuse for laggy games in this day and age. Also, the maps are not as good as those in COD4.

Spec-ops 6/10 - great in co-op, pointless in single player. It would be so much better if you could find co-op partners online rather than being able to play with friends only.

Overall 7/10. A decent package but not worthy of its phenomenal hype, sales or inflated price. There are better FPS games out there in terms of single player, online multiplayer and co-op. The sub-HD graphics do not help either.

Thought the SP was ok but was extemely when it ended. Far too short!

Spec ops wasn't that bad, the juggernauts were a good challenge. Spec ops is probably the best part of the game.

Really let down with multiplayer aswell, too much lag and things not syncronizing.

Also annoyed how people with more kills get better scoring even if they have high kills,
E.G. 12kills 18deaths = -6 and 7kills 3deaths = +4 but the 12 kills gets the higher XP.

I would only give it a 6, slighty above average but only because i like shoot 'em up type games.

MW2 9.5/10 for me.

Bigger and better than cod4 in every way.
