Tiger Woods 2010 - Preview Thread

No thread for this years edition so thought I start one up.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 takes golf fans inside-the-ropes to experience the drama and emotion of tournament golf. Test your stick skills as you play in front of huge galleries and hear the roar of the crowd at every hole. For the first time in franchise history, take on one of the toughest tests in golf – the U.S. Open at Bethpage Black. Fight a multitude of tough courses, real-time weather conditions, the challenge of online tournaments, and more – Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 provides an inside-the-ropes experience like never before.

General Features

* Excitement on Every Swing – Each round will now feel like a tournament stop on the PGA TOUR. Huge galleries, digital leaderboards, and broadcast style presentation add to the excitement and intensity of real tournament golf.

* Play the Prestigious U.S. Open - Will The U.S. Open makes its inaugural appearance in Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 10. Known as one of the toughest tests in golf, Bethpage Black will challenge every player’s golf skills with its extremely challenging course conditions.

* Real-Time Weather Conditions — Powered by The Weather Channel, real-time weather now effects gameplay by providing current conditions at actual courses. Putts will roll slower on wet greens and drives will be shorter due to the rain soaked fairways.

* Broadcast Style Presentation — ESPN's Scott Van Pelt and the Golf Channel’s Kelly Tilghman form a new commentary team that adds to the new sports broadcast presentation, including hole overviews, up-to-the –minute updates from around the course, and more.

* Precision Putting - New option that removes the notion of putter distance and instead requires players to judge the necessary power for each putt based on slope and distance to the cup

* Tournament Challenge — Relive key moments in tournament history through an all-new character progression mode.

* Take on the Leaderboard — Exciting changes are in store for gamers as Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 10 features new enhancements for the online tournaments. Get ready to step up and take it to the next level this PGA TOUR season.

Some interesting features included this year, real-time weather conditions are actually taken from the real course you are playing on, a change to the putting mechanics.

Released on 16th June. Already pre-ordered my copy

Hmmm, Not sure how much this will add, could just delay the already slow between shots routines.

Surely this is not the only new course. Would be awesome to see Augusta appear.

Now this is really very confusing. how useful will this be? Playing according to realtime weather sounds fine, unless your playing in the middle of winter at St Andrews, or playing on a US course in the middle of the night!! Sounds more like a gimmick than a useful feature.

So long as it doesn't delay the game then I couldn't care less ... although Kelly is nice to look at she has an annoying voice

At last a real improvement, of course I have no idea what this improvement actually means to the game itself, but at least its an attempt at improving it.

Another presentation change that will get little use from me.

I actually enjoyed the extra little feature of gamernet challenges etc, so maybe they have improved it too.

I'll be waiting to hear some reviews .. and even then will have to sure that this is a real improvement before parting with the hard earned ..... hopefully the trophies will be career type trophies rather than 20 hole in ones etc.

Re: Tiger Woods 2010 - Preview Thread

After playing Everybodys Golf World Tour,I was looking for something to play till Gran Turismo shows up.
I had seen the Tiger Woods titles before, but this time I downloaded the demo and was pleasantly surprised,I like it.

When people say, same old game different clothes I think, golf is golf, but there must be something better than the 09 edition.

If I get the 09 edition, would there be any point in getting 10?

Thanks

Alan

Re: Tiger Woods 2010 - Preview Thread

The biggest reason i got 09 was the inclusion of simultaneous online play, bal by ball. The major things i am seeing with TW10 are the minor graphical updates, especially swinging tress (not a word lol) which could make things interesting if your tight to the tree line. The inclsusion of a deeper online tournament structure that could be fun, and a new putting mechanic. They are the biggest updates for me over 09.

I wish they could implement a private lobby system where you could create a tournament room for you and friends that is password protected, you can set all the parameter like course and number of rounds and then you can set a length of time for people to be able to play their rounds. The game records the round results and at the end of an alotted time, say a week or 4 days, the room is locked and you can see the results in a table format. It would be great for a league structure. Saves people having to play together in case of cheating, yes i do get paranoid, and people can play when they want within the time frame. Sort of like league rooms on FIFA.

Re: Tiger Woods 2010 - Preview Thread

Just game the demo a quick blast.

The most significant thing I noticed gameplay wise was the change of camera angles when you've played a shot. Gone is the ability to watch the ball drop directly from the air, and decide whether you want to spin the ball forwards/backwards or left/right to correct a slightly off target shot.

It seems with the new camera angle it is a bit more realistic in that the decision to add spin is more something you decide beforehand (although techinically you still apply it after you've hit your shot). I think will make the game a little harder than 09, and make the scoring a little more realistic. I hope there isn't the option to change it back to 09 setting, especially online.

The putting has changed, but I don't think it makes it any more difficult and is probably still far too easy (especially with putt preview enabled)

The added weather is a nice change. Was good fun playing in a downpour.

But yeh, as ever a few new features but nothing too different from the previous year. Given I already own 09 I think I'll wait a month or two until it reaches a sensible price, before upgrading.

That feature is still there.

I should clarify a little. I don't mean the ability to spin the ball has been removed. In fact the spin works exactly like in '09. But the camera angles have changed and are generally much flatter, so when hitting an iron into the green you don't get a few seconds of watching the ball drop directly from the above enabling you to make a decision on what spin to add to get the ball even closer to the hole (like in '09).

The camera angles in the demo are much different. Go into practice mode and try hitting a 9iron / PW from 100/120 metres from the flag. The first idea you have of how close the ball is going to be to the flag is when the ball bounces on the green, at which point it is too late to make a decision about the spin. So in effect you have to make a decision about the spin before you hit the ball. For example if you know your club is 5/10 yards too long you might want to add some backspin. That is much more realistic and I think it is an improvment.

I thought that too about the camera angle and was initially really disappointed but a quick tap of the X button defaults the camera to the usual camera view from above (alternatively just start to spin the ball slightly as soon as you've hit it and the camera angle stays above from the outset.)

Oh that is interesting... thanks

To be honest I thought the 'new' camera angle was an improvement, because I think the ability to choose your spin as you see where your ball is about to land is a bit silly, and makes the game too unrealistic, and far too easy.

I think this game is out today... I wonder what the trophies will be, I haven't found a reliable list yet. Still don't think there is enough improvments over 09 to warrant a full price purchase, will have to wait a little.

The release date is 03/07/2009. It would be unlikely to be out today anyway as it's a wednesday.

Thanks Moogle, I had it in my head that it was beginning of June.

Although it looks like it is released on June 8th in the US (offical site)

That is correct. Of course you could import but then due to the exchange rate you would pay more then here probably. Also any DLC would have to be bought from the US PSN store.

Judging by the demo, the framedrops that occurred on 08 and 09 have gone, finally

This was my biggest bugbear from 08, so I skipped 09 as it was the same. Now I'm wondering if I should wait for 11 and PSMC control...

I too would like to get this in advance from P Asia but am worried about import duty. Last time I ordered Socom for the playstation 3 i ended up paying double due to customs.

When trying to get the PS3 version for this though, it states it cannot deliver to the Eu. I assume the Xbox is okay though? WOuld it be better to get it from the US on Play Asia to get round this? If possible I would rather get it on PS3 as most of my friends play it on there.

Play Asia stopped shipping Playstation games to the EU a long time ago. If you want the PS3 version then the following is a good place and they mark down the value so you avoid import duties.

Welcome to Video Games Plus Online

I've ordered loads of items from them and never paid duty.

Thanks Moogle

I ordered it from here like you suggested but did not see an option to mark it down in price. Do they do this automatically? I really dont want to pay duty again.

I only got normal shipping. How long does a game take usually once despatched?

Re: Tiger Woods 2010 - Preview Thread

Another thing that has changed, [thank god for that], is the position of the swing meter for the 3-click system

It is now in the left corner of the screen in 2010 as opposed to dead centre in '09.

No big shakes for you bloody Tour Pro experts - but for us mere mortals who dare to use the 3-click system it is a huge difference.

The number of times I had set the power required and the pointer was on its way back down into the 'accuracy' zone and, lo and behold,
one of my friends would come online or message me and the notification pop up would obscure the 'accuracy' zone resulting in a wild hook or slice

I'll have no excuses this time around

Re: Tiger Woods 2010 - Preview Thread

The 1 time putt preview ( '-' key) seems to be greyed out with standard swing, anybody notice this?? I thought I was supposed to only not get this option on advanced.

If anyone is interested in pre-ordering, I've noticed Amazon have it for £37.93, which is on 'par' (pardon the pun) with other stores, but, Amazon are offering a free downloadable extra course (Spyglass Hill), which I think cost about £5 to £6 on the PSN store for TW09.

Re: Tiger Woods 2010 - Preview Thread

If you look on the US store there are lots of items that people can pay for to unlock already, extra courses and top boosts etc.

I feel this takes out the skill (if there was any) out of the game as anyone can now max out their golfer and play online from day one.

Its a shame really because I used to play this with my mates in work and we all used to take in our memory cards and copy over our own golfers which we used to boost up on single player at home. Seems the fun has been sucked out of the game.

I'll never buy a TW game again and I'm looking forward to a real golf sim on the consoles.

That's typical of EA especially with their sports franchises as well as the Need For Speed games. It does seem like a cop out to just buy those abilities and unlock those courses/modes etc. instead of earning them by playing the game and doing well.

Couldn't agree more.

God forbid they make something I want!

Re: Tiger Woods 2010 - Preview Thread

For anyone who is impatient, I've noticed there are a few Ebay sellers who have brand new copies of these available for £35.95 with immediate dispatch.

Naturally I assume these are US copies, but that shouldn't be an issue should it?
