The Godfather 2 - Preview Thread

I'm surprised a thread for this game hasn't already been created!! Was going to be a March 2009 release however has been delayed by EA for a April-June 2009 release.

Has a mix of top down RTS strategy (when being the don) and GTA4 style when doing missions etc. The RTS element of the game reminds me of the game called 'Gangsters' on the pc if anyone remembers that game.

Re: The Godfather 2 - Preview Thread

The previous game got slated did it not?

I personally found it great, considering it was on the PS2 (with a more polished version for PS3) years age.

It did get a little repetative but then again, so does GTA. The fact of being a propper mafia footsoldier rising through the ranks however, should have more appeal to me than an eastern european criminal but I loved Niko's character and definately shocked me at how likeable he was, I can't see this game matching that. But who knows.

Re: The Godfather 2 - Preview Thread

Mine's on order with Shopto so I'm hoping for a Thursday delivery..

PSM3 reviewed it in the May edition and it got a bit of a kicking 65%.. It did say if your a fan of the series and dont take it too serious its actually not too bad. However they did have issues like why there is no bikes / takes four buttons to strangle someone etc and also why it never goes dark?.

I've seen a mix of reviews for the game but I think if your a fan of the series it'll be a decent game to play.

And Shopto have just confirmed payment has been taken etc so it might be here tomorrow (Wednesday)!!

Re: The Godfather 2 - Preview Thread

My copy was sent by Shopto on Tuesday but it still hasn't arrived and usually its next day delivery with them.Hope it turns up on Thursday..

http://www.ztgamedomain.com/6872/The-Godfather-II.html

Above review got 8.6/10 other reviews I have seen have been around the 7/10 mark...

I still think if you like the original and/or a fan of the series then you will enjoy the game even though there is some limitations.

Re: The Godfather 2 - Preview Thread

The gamespot review has put me off from buying this. I really enjoyed the first game on the PS2, waiting for the GameTrailers review. I will most likely rent this out, whne i open my account with lovefilm.

If i'm not impressed, i am going to pre-order Mafia 2.

Re: The Godfather 2 - Preview Thread

Have had a quick blast at lunch...First impressions Cut scenes are good face animation very good...
Gameplay abit cluncky as is camera view.

But will play through as the story line seems good , haven't played multiplayer yet but i didn't buy it for that reason...

As has been said before if your a fan of the movie's / last game you won't be disapointed

Re: The Godfather 2 - Preview Thread

Well I've been playing this, this evening and I think it's great. Ok the AI is not on a par with say Killzone2 but I am really enjoying this game.

The strategy element of the game is great and offers variety in regards to attacking and defending your properties and enemies properties.

One thing to remember if playing that you can also upgrade Dominic (you the player) abilities just the same as you upgrade your made men's statistics/abilities.

Could the game get repetitive possibly yes but if you use don's view properly and use the strategy properly then there is plenty of ways to go about things. In the end though you take over business' defend your own and take out rival family's.

I think the gamespot review is a tad harsh most reviews have been around the 7 mark which I think is about right.

How detailed are the strategic elements? From looking at the Don's View the maps look small. How many businesses/rackets etc. are there in each city?

The first map which is New York is very small with probably only about 8 businesses/rackets in total. The 2nd map is much larger and has 2 rival families challenging for them. In terms of number of rackets I'd say around 20. They also attack the rackets in New York as well. For the third map I am guessing will have more families with more rackets. It means you have to be travelling between New York / Florida and Cuba quite a lot.

Strategy wise you can bomb / arson / attack / defend (all of your rackets and enemies rackets) / put a number of guards around your owned rackets / upgrade stats of your crew / promote / demote made men. Capo's that are not earning the right money can be eliminated by yourself.

You also need to make sure you have the right men for the job i.e. bruisers/arsonists/engineers/medics so you also have to manage that element.

Also attacking rival families (made men and capo's) is done via contracts which you have to make certain requirements. Like for example must be killed by molotov explosion or thrown into the river and drowned. The dons must be killed and there compounds blown up.
