Dead Rising 2 - Preview Thread

Good news for the PS3 owners. Capcom has confirmed Dead Rising 2 is going multi-format (PC, PS3 and Xbox 360).

Quote:
Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today confirmed that Dead Rising 2 is in development for three different gaming platforms: the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Sony Computer Entertainment’s PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3) and the PC. The sequel to the 1.5 million-plus selling Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2 will take the franchise to a new level of zombie-killing fun with tens of thousands of zombies, the all new gambling paradise of Fortune City to explore and conquer plus a host of new in-game objects that can all be used as deadly weapons to stave off the zombie assault.

Dead Rising 2 is set several years after the infamous zombie invasion of Willamette. Unfortunately, the zombie virus was not contained at the conclusion of Dead Rising, spreading unchecked throughout the United States and Dead Rising 2 depicts a country where zombie outbreaks continue to strike.

Dead Rising 2 is being developed in partnership with up and coming Canadian developer Blue Castle Games. A number of members from the original Dead Rising team will be working alongside Blue Castle Games throughout the development process, including Capcom’s global head of research and development, Keiji Inafune, who as the game’s Producer will play an active role in the project.

Re: Dead Rising 2

ah you beat me to it!

Can't wait for this - the original is still one of the reasons i'm mulling over getting a 360 arcade.

The hamster ball looks insane!

Re: Dead Rising 2

They should chuck the original on the PSN. There were rumors of that happening too.

Good to see Dead Rising follow Mass Effect and Bioshock of 360 Exclusives going multi-format

If that leaked video is real then i doubt the official screens are in-game. Unless the footage was showing the 1st game

Hope they improve the controls and save system from the first game.

Edit: Bit of co-op wouldn't be bad too.

Video looks like the screenies, lots of effects being used in the video to give the atmosphere of chaos and anarchy. The first game looked awesome, and I have no doubts this will be just as good. WIll be buying on the 360 though as rumour has it they will get extra features as it was a 360 original game. How true that is i don't know.

I am gonna have to play Dead Rising tonight now.

The only reason I gave up with the first one was the shocking save system...it completely ruined the game for me.

Hopefully the second one will improve on that

Re: Dead Rising 2 - Preview Thread

Just been going through future release games to see if there is anything worth pre ordering, and noticed this was less than £30 pretty much everywhere. Any reason for the lower price point on this particular game?

Any word on multiplayer for this? Co-op could be great. Gamecentral reckon this looks promising.

I hope it doesn't. The save system is one of the main reasons why DR was so good. Your actions, or punctuality lmao...had consequences :D it kept the pressure on.

The original whilst fun is a little dull after a while.

read the game has an online co-op option, but it sounds like the same one as in mercenaries 2 ie drop in/ drop out, which is rubbish as only player one can save the game/ upgrade their stats etc etc which makes player 2's a waste of time, missed opportunity here as a proper co-op campaign is a real winner

huh where the heck did you read this? Correct, only the host can save his game but both players can level up. This is fine as you end up being able to play the game twice with a mate.

surely playing the game co-op means playing the game ONCE together - ie saving and levelling up during the same gaming session - playing it solo then co-op seems pointless playing it twice to me ?????

theres enough great games about - who has time to play the same game through TWICE ??????

just seems a wasted opportunity when other games can manage PROPER co-op campaigns

well you know Capcom games have an NG+ element to them? like the original Dead Rising did with it's extra 2 modes?

Out of interest what co-op games have you played where both players get a save point?

I mean you do realise the purpose of drop-in/drop-out? Because by your rationale it means that players could only join other players online who are in the exact same checkpoint/chapter as each other?

For example me and my mate plan to couch lan/co-op DR2 so we'll both be playing through the entire game, what happens then if he decides he wants to co-op with someone else? He'd have to find someone in the same chapter as him. I think they could implement it, but they won't as drop in/drop out is less hassle.

I have no qualms playing the game twice mate, it's gonna rock.

Resident Evil 5

If they implement it the same way as RE5 that will work fine.

on ps3 alone

HAZE
COD WAW
SAINTS ROW 2
LITTLE BIG PLANET
LOST PLANET 2
ARMY OF 2 (1 & 2)
etc etc

seems the whole point of co-op to me, you both save the progress of the game together and any stats/weapons/upgrades

then continue the game on TOGETHER, drop in/out is fine if you dont mind some random joining you (never a good idea)

must just be me

I've been playing this at work and so far I'm loving it! So much fun. You could spend hours just killing zombies with all the different crazy weapons.
