Post SSX Snowboarding/Avalanche update...

Attempted to respond to the older thread in relation to this topic but I'm afraid it's too old to reply to so here's an update for those that are interested...

EA Resurrecting SSX? article from The Sixth Axis.

A quick precis for those who don't wanna click the link...

A bloke from EA Montreal says... 'Yeah, we're thinking about it but don't hold your breath.'

Re: SSX Snowboarding update...

I would LOVE an SSX game for the PS3. I loved SSX tricky for the PS2.

This must happen, preferred Tricky over 3 though.

Re: SSX Snowboarding update...

Oh yes, now this would be fantastic, SSX3 was our first PS2 game and the lack of something comparable to it (or even SSX On Tour at a push) for the PS3 has been a major disappointment.

Bring it on

Preferred the original over Tricky, it was amazing as my first launch PS2 game - i was like "wow the Emotion Engine!"

Problem is now how relevant is it? It'll still be going downhill, outrageous button combos to do outrageous tricks, but we've done it all so many times now... Yes it'll be pretty but what else? Online obviously, larger free-roam environments? Wrap it up in a Bourne-like ski-terrorist plot? I just dont see how the genre can progress apart from the superficial.

I'd love to see them making these games again. The original was the best version in my opinion and enjoyed tricky too but the last one left me a bit cold.

Think what your saying highlights part of the problem on the PS3 - too many games take themselves too seriously. I dont' want a big bourne like plot or a game where I have to commit loads of hours to becoming reasonable at it.

Loved the pick up and play nature of the game and so could have a decent race with anyone. Aside from on PSN there aren't that many simple fun games on the PS3 and nor should there be when they are starting to push £40-£50 but perhaps they could remake the original SSX in high def with some extra textures and an online mode and sell it for rrp £30.

Totally agree that it's just going downhill so don't need to design new courses or storyline. I'm also not looking for a game that will progress the genre or one that will spur a number of sequels on the PS3. Just one SSX game would be nice.

Although saying that didn't EA announce a number of lay offs and that they'll be reducing the amount of games they release to 30 per year. I wonder how that would effect EA Big?

I think you've hit the nail on the head elliot

SSX was one of those games where you could have a mate around who'd never picked it up before and just play together. Or alternatively (unlike a lot of games in the 'sporting' genre) you could just chuck it on, get immersed in it immediately and just have fun. Yeah, you could perfect moves and learn the courses but at its' heart it was just an enjoyable ride whenever you picked up your pad.

I'm certainly not dissing the current crop of sports games but (yeah here comes the 'but'!) to get the most out of them you inevitably have to put in a few hours to become at the very least proficient and to subsequently get the most out of them. Sometimes we just need an hour or two of gaming where you don't necessarily have to think too much (or maybe that's just my lack of intellect ).

I'd love a PS3 SSX... Owned all of the iterations on the PS2 from launch to On Tour, and whilst the quality declined a bit with On Tour, the ideals were the same... Make a next-gen SSX and I'll be a very happy chappy indeed!

Just... Don't use the Tony Hawk Ride board please

I don't think Activision would allow EA to do that.

I do worry for gaming with all these new fangled peripherals as I am getting older, fatter and slower though.

I think the abismal sales of DJ Hero & TH : Ride has killed that trend (for now at least)

In other news SSX IS COMING SOON! to the iphone

Red Alert, SSX for iPhone | Edge Online

Which, whilst not altogether exciting says to me they have not completely forgotten about SSX as a brand.

Seems like each console has had it's own great snowboarding game - 1080 on the N64, cool borders on the PS1 and SSX on the PS2, yet to see it on this generation of consoles...

After watching some of the snowboarding in Vancouver, I'd be well up for this especially if a dev of the quality of Criterion are involved

All it needs to be is SSX HD, rather than a completely new full-priced title.
ie BF1943, GOW Collection etc

If they could do that, and make it a PSN title or a reasonably priced retail version (like GOW:C) then im sure people will make the purchase. Its a fun title, and if they stuck with that and didnt try to make an epic scaled title with an epic scaled pricetag then that would be perfect. Theres no way i'd buy it at £40 no matter how improved it was, however i'd have no trouble handing over £10-20 for an 'next-gen' version of a title i have fond memories of.

IMO the above 2 examples are exactly whats needed, BF1943 helped introduced a new generation to the Battlefield series with a cut-down version of an old game in a new engine, and an affordable pricetag.
GOW:C updated 2 PS2 classics without touching the story or trying to make it anything new, and made it a great way to get people into the series just before their latest title came out. I bought (pre-ordered) GOW3, still havent taken it out of the wrapper as i want to finish the first 2 before starting the 3rd. Win:Win for both of us.

i remember ssx being the launch game for the ps2 years ago.and it was pretty damn impressive when you first saw what that game looked like and could do.

tricky was brilliant too.

i was surprised there wasnt another ssx to launch with the ps3.

but a ps3 ssx would be good.i bet it would look amazing too.and with online too, would be lots of fun.

so yeah for ssx.
