September 29, 2009
Super Street Fighter 4 is tentatively set for a spring 2010 release.
The update will be released on a disc, and won't be available as DLC (Downloadable Content) — but the game will be priced as an upgrade — not a brand new title.
As this time, they're thinking of adding about 8 characters to the game. (Rumors currently have this pegged at 10 fighters total).
Capcom is planning on adding more features to the online modes. Things so people can enjoy playing as a group. (Sounds like lobbies are in).
There will be tweaks and balance changes, along with more online stuff and new features the developers are adding in.
Bonus Stages aren't 100% confirmed, but it sounds very likely they'll be making it into Super Street Fighter 4.
You won't need the original disc to play this update, but fans who have a copy of SF4 will be, "happy to have held on to it," as they'll be receiving something nifty.
Juri is a Korean Tae Kwan Do fighter and is very important to the storyline.
They skipped "Champion Edition" and "Turbo" and jumped straight to "Super" for the name of this upgrade because of the scale and size of what they're planning
October 1, 2009
All existing 25 characters will be tweaked, but the development team is struggling with how exactly to balance everyone properly.
They add that an arcade release for Super Street Fighter IV is not completely out of the question after all
The story modes for all characters will be different this time around. New intros and endings for everyone.
The 'Indestructible' song is toast, will be replaced with something else.
New background stages are strongly hinted at and old stages will be tweaked a bit.
Seth will be the last boss again, and Capcom is doing some things to make players like him even less.
There will be no unlockable characters this time around.
Focus Attacks will not be undergoing major tweaks, you'll basically only notice changes if you look closely at the frame data.

Highlights from the Famitsu interview with Ono:
Ono STRONGLY hinted at Bonus Stages, more specifically at the level where barrels fall at you from above.
There will be AT LEAST 8 new characters, but no concrete answer on the exact number.
They will be looking at fan input for the most wanted character to add to the roster.
Ono describes Juri as a Fei Long-esque Viper. Which basically means that long combo strings are easy to do with her, so at the moment she is way too powerful.
Rumors (GREEN is confirmed true, RED is confirmed false, BLUE is not confirmed but probably true):
Returning characters from previous Street Fighter games are:
From Street Fighter II: Dee Jay and T. Hawk
From Street Fighter III: Dudley, Ibuki, and Makoto
From Street Fighter Alpha: Adon, Cody, and Guy
The new characters are rumored to be:
Hakan - An Arabic grappler obsessed with oil.
Juri - Evil Asian girl fighter working for Seth.
All characters will have two Ultras. They will both be available at one time, not selectable like with Third Strike's Super Arts. The commands to execute your Ultras do not overlap.
It sounds like the characters from Third Strike are set up with their prior Super Arts. They had three in that game, so one will be their Super and the other two their Ultras.
Gen has four Ultras because of his two fighting styles. One of these is said to be an Air Ultra.
All characters still have one Super, except Sakura who apparently has a Shinkuu Hadoken (Super Fireball) as well.
Some characters will have Air Ultras.
The Bonus Stages will be returning.
This will be an exclusive arcade release at least for a few months.
An official announcement is said to be coming at the Tokyo Game Show and on the Japanese Street Fighter 4 blog soon.
Expect the return of the many familiar Supers, and a few new ones like Metsu Shoryuken. You'll see the return of Chun-Li's Kikosho (Super Fireball), Gouken's Denjin, Sagat's Tiger Cannon (Super Fireball).
Ibuki has a run command.
Guile has his Sonic Hurricane move from CvS.
Dudley has his Chain combos from Third Strike, plus one additional Chain combo.
Cody is the only character with an Alpha Counter and he still has his knife. He supposedly needs his knife to perform one of his Ultras.
Rufus can cancel-break the last hit of his Spectacle Romance, or the launch kick of Space Opera Symphony.
Guy has his Chain combos.
Makoto has her Tanden Renki Super from Third Strike.
Zangief is said to have a 720 degree motion Air Ultra called the Siberian Blizzard.
The game takes place one year after Street Fighter 4.
Dudley was searching for his car in Third Strike, in this game he's searching for a rose.
T. Hawk's storyline involves him protecting Juni or Juli.
Dhalsim's new Ultra is called the Yoga Shangri'la.
There's a new gameplay system called Tadan Saving, the phrase implies a multi-hitting or multiple-level Focus Attack.
The console characters are all said to be added to the upcoming arcade release, with the possible exceptions of Seth and Gouken.

From an IGN interview with Yoshinori Ono:
- brand new openings and endings for all the characters
- Seth is still the final boss, will be more difficult
- no unlockable characters
- more additional characters planned apart from T Hawk, Deejay and Juri
- several balance tweaks
- the "Indestructible" song is going

I was hoping Seth would be gone, along with that poxy song.

Nice that the (confirmed) info's starting to come out. 8-10 new characters feels like it would at least be a worthwhile standalone purchase. Am wondering what the price point would be at release though - £20? Also interested to see what extra you get for having the original title.
re: Super Street Fighter IV - Preview Thread - 30th April for Europe
Nice work on the info OP.
Will look forward to playing this new version. I bought SF4 for around £27 brand new from Shopto at release, so expect this version to be around £18 (reduced by retailer).. maybe £24.99 RRP.
Heard they made Seth even cheesier/harder! Although as all chars will be unlocked from the start I doubt I'll touch the single player game. Although will do the combo challenges to get the nice icons etc.

Same here. Don't plan on touching the SP mode, but will probably do some work in the training room/ challenges to get used to the re-balance of the characters and some nice icons to use.

I'll have a new apprentice ready to kick yer asses in Spring next year.. my new born will be arriving in a few weeks and will be around 5 months old when this game comes out.. be afraid!
After reading another interview with the developers, Im now 100% positive that they will have online lobbies for around 6 people who can spectate on matches as they wait for their turn. Would be cool to get a lobby together and have a blast.

Looking forward to picking up the friendly rivalry again
(And good luck to you and the missus, hope it all goes well.)

Impressions and notes
The game is still being heavily tweaked and balanced, so some of this information is likely to change over time — so try not to stress too much over balance issues.
Dee Jay notes
• He played a lot like his Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo counterpart. Same moves, same overall style.
• He's fast.
• EX-Dread Kicks crumple stun the other player if they connect, setting up your Ultra or other things after wards.
• Has a very quick Crouching Light Punch like Balrog in Street Fighter 4.
• Lots of combos and they're easy to execute.
• Dee Jay has good cross ups attacks just like in Super Turbo.
T. Hawk notes
• T. Hawk has a new move called the Condor Spire which is basically a Hawk Dive that flies him straight across the screen instead of diving diagonally down-forward.
• He's very strong. His Super and Ultra moves both took off well over half power against Juri, who probably has low stamina though.
• His Ultra has a ton of range, which Seth Killian said will be reduced.
• Martin "Marn" Phan said, "T. Hawk sucks," citing that he currently cannot Focus Attack Dash Cancel anything, he has no combos and his moves have low priority. He felt the only thing going for Hawk was his Super and Ultra.
Juri notes
• For more information on Juri's moves and what they do, hit her Super Street Fighter 4 moves page.
• She's a motion-based character, i.e. her Special Moves do not require you to "charge" them up by holding in a direction for 2 seconds.
• Has wall bounce attacks and lots of juggling capability.
• Juri has a very quick dash. Comparable to Chun-Li.
• Her Focus Attack doesn't have much range.
General stuff
• The game will have plenty of selectable taunts, just like Street Fighter 4.
• Only a handful of players got to play SSF4, Capcom kept this somewhat locked down.
re: Super Street Fighter IV - Preview Thread - 30th April for Europe
I find it a little strange that they don't know for sure how many new characters will be in the game. Suggests to me they are working on 10-12 and will pick out their faves, possibly holding a couple back/ continuing to tweak beyond release for DLC. Would be nice to get a confirmed roster as well as a view of the new stages referred to in the clips. A definite release day purchase though and looking forward to the (surely) improved lobbies.
I have heard that this stick is a good basic one.. of course the expensive ones are better build quality etc.
Ive ordered it just to see if I can manage with it on my lap and see if I can clean up my gameplay.. if not its only a tenner.
I saw this months ago and was permanently out of stock. Just clicked on the link though and it's now showing at £40??? I had picked up this at Amazon a few months ago when only £30:
TBH, I've struggled with it and pretty much always resort to a pad. Is probably a lack of patience and not practising enough but I get frustrated that I play pretty rubbish with the stick and just settle for easy/ familiar option of the pad. Guess I should sell the stick really

Wierd, the price has gone back upto £40! My order looks like its being honoured at £10 though.
I used to play in the arcades and used a stick with SNES SF2.. so I should be able to get back into stick action.. as long as the stick can sit comfortable on my lap/table though. Heard it can take some time to get fully perfect with stick.. but well worth it. Fed up of getting hand cramps.

Must admit that I've been finding my hands cramping when playing it recently. Not sure whether to put that down to too many hours invested in the game (178hrs to date ) or the controller. Probably should dust the stick off and give it another try. My main problem is that I've no background with joysticks for this kind of game and am back to a beginner when trying to pull off any moves - I can seem to do shoto UC's when facing right, but not when facing left! End up jumping or dragon punching and generally looking like a spanner. Thing is with the pad, whilst a lot more comfortable, I use a custom button layout and discard a few of the buttons altogether (jabs) as this fits with the way I play with Honda but is useless for many of the other characters so getting used to the stick would open up my game no end.
(Just realised this should probably be in the existing Play & Help thread. Ah well....)

On topic, I still hate Dee Jay
Where do you find out how many hours you've spent?

Is in the player profile bit from the menu screen. You can get info like how many matches you've played with each character, their win percentages, total online matches and wins, etc. Surprised myself by finding I'd won something like 36 out of 38 matches with Sakura, despite thinking I'd hardly used her. Honda was my 3rd worst success ratio at about 74%, although is always my goto character. Am quite impressed with my longest online winning streak of 18 too
re: Super Street Fighter IV - Preview Thread - 30th April for Europe
Lots of new info flooding in.

The French site Jeuxactu.com has written up an interesting story about Super Street Fighter 4. I've done a rough translation of the piece, so keep in mind some things might get lost in translation.
Sagat and Seth were specifically mentioned in the article as being nerfed (not being as effective).
The rest of the cast is being rebalanced by altering the power of some of their moves along with changing up the frame data.
There will be new opening and ending sequences done by a 'great Japanese animation studio.'
Assumption from author: The user-interface will be receiving an overhaul.
Assumption from author: Bonus stages have been confirmed.
Update: Ken Bogard emailed me to clarify some of the things in this news story. Notably that there were 8 character slots in the beta he played, with only Juri, T. Hawk and Dee Jay selectable.
He also stated that the properties for Shoryuken/Tiger Uppercut moves wouldn't be changed, but Ono wants the rest of the cast to have more ways of countering these attacks. Earlier in the day more Super Street Fighter 4 details have emerged from the Micromania Game Show that was held in France.
Ken Bogard got some hands on time with the title and revealed/confirmed some new details about the game which Tuurio translated. Here's the skinny.
• He confirmed characters will have two Ultra moves.
• Some of the new commands to execute an Ultra are very unique.
• There were 8 selectable character spots on the select screen with only Juri, T. Hawk and Dee Jay selectable.
• The character select screen is completely different than it was in Street Fighter 4.
• Yoshinori Ono is still pushing hard to get an arcade version made.
• He was asked if the big announcement next week will relate to characters or new online modes, Ono said it was the latter.
• Dee Jay's Machine Gun Punch is now a mash punch command. It's no longer done by charging down and then pressing up + punch.
• T. Hawk's Condor Spire (horizontal Hawk Dive) is a reverse Dragon Punch command.
• You can follow an EX-Tomahawk Buster with an EX-Condor Dive. This takes two EX meters.
• Yoshinori feels that a Darkstalkers revival is possible.
• Throws are too easy to land in Capcom's eyes and they plan to tweak some things to fix this. Ono wants jumps to have fewer startup frames.
• Capcom wants to give the rest of the cast more tools for countering Dragon Punch/Tiger Uppercut attacks.
Also some more...

The bonus stages will be in Super Street Fighter 4, according to this Famitsu scan. From the pictures below, we can see the return of the car and barrel stages.
According to Reno on the SRK boards, these features are also discussed in the article.
• A team battle mode that is a 2 vs 2 set, but it can scale up to 4 vs 4.
• A Replay Channel where you can play replays of matches while voice chatting with other players.
• An Endless Battle mode with up to 8 players and voice chat, which sounds a lot like the quarter matches in SSF2T HD Remix.
• Apparently a 'tournament mode' will be delivered as DLC (downloadable content).
