Dante's Inferno - Preview Thread

Quote:
EA introduces an all new original property from the studio behind the hit horror game, Dead Space. The game is based on part one of the medieval epic poem, The Divine Comedy, commonly referred to as Dante’s Inferno, by Dante Alighieri. The dark fiction gave birth to the Tuscan Italian dialect and is widely considered the work that has defined the western world’s contemporary conception of hell and purgatory. The poem tells the tale of Dante who journeys through the twisted, menacing nine circles of hell in pursuit of his beloved Beatrice.
Written in the 14th Century, The Divine Comedy was published and read aloud in Italian (unlike the Bible), thereby making the poem accessible to the mass public. The poem delivers a striking and allegorical vision of the Christian afterlife and the punishments of hell. In part one, known as Dante’s Inferno, Dante traverses all nine circles of hell; limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, wrath, heresy, violence, fraud and treachery.

Demo out next month

Quote:
Visceral Games has confirmed that a playable demo for new IP Dante's Inferno will be launched soon for Xbox 360 and PS3.
Available next month on Xbox Live and PSN, the Gates Of Hell demo will cover the entire opening level of the hack-n-slash action game.
Based on Dante Alighieri's classic poem The Divine Comedy, the game sees players take on the role of Dante as he fights through the nine circles of Hell - limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, anger, heresy, violence, fraud and treachery.
In the demo, players will have to defeat Death in order to win his scythe and holy cross before ripping open the gates of Hell. The taster also includes two short movies created by the Blur digital animation studio.
"Our main goal from the start of this project has been to create a journey that will make gamers truly feel like they are going through hell," said the game's executive producer Jonathan Knight.
"The demo will give everyone some insight into how we are treating the story and a taste of the gameplay. And with nine more circles of hell to explore once the game comes out in February, we are literally just scratching the surface."
Dante's Inferno will be released on February 9, 2010 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PSP

The demo for the PS3 in the USA should be up today, got a dual account, just waiting to see when it appears.

A hands-on review is already up on IGN.

Looks like the PS3 will get a Special Edition Exclusive of the game.

Just played the US demo. I can't put my finger on it, but it reminds me of a game or two I played on the PS2 (and a demo on the PS3).

Xbox 360 owners will have to wait two weeks until December 24 to destroy demons. That's the same date that European PS3 and 360 owners will gain access to the demo.

wow, I have to say im quite impressed. Yes its a bit of a button masher but Ive seldom seen one that looks as nice as this one does, and the gameplay seems engaging and fun, who doesnt like dismembering multitudes of hideous demons on the way to saving a beautiful woman who doesnt seem to mind getting them out for the lads (yes there is nudity in this game, first time ive seen this in a game)

And the cut scenes look almost photo realistic.

This has gone from a wait and see to a must by for me. Roll on 2010

I feel the same for some reason, DMC never clicked with me.

Played the demo for Dante's last night and have to say I really enjoyed it. Graphics are great, they've captured the setting brilliantly and gameplay seems spot on.

GOW looks like it'll have some serious competition with this.

I'll definately get this but as it's an EA game I know a month after release it'll be on sale in places sub £20 so will hold off and get it then.

Think you might be right, and with the quality of the games coming out in the first two months of nextyear we can afford to leave a couple till they come down in price.

PLayed the demo last night.. have to say i like it, yeah it's very much like god of war in the way it plays etc but to me that's not a bad thing.. it looks great and the story and setting is my kind of thing..

there are just so many games coming first quarter of 2010 that i want to get.. this, Yakuza 3, Final fantasy XIII, God of war III,

i'm sure there's others i've missed.. looks like i'll have to stick with Xmas leftovers for a while to afford all of this

Its decent enough. I have been playing GOW2 every night this week so to go and play the DI demo straight leaves you under no illusions about the similarities. With Bayonetta, Dantes Inferno & GOW3 on their way we are in danger of being bored of the genre by spring (especially if you have been playing GOW collection too). I didn't play the demo all the way through (will do toinght) but it feels like a combination of Demon Souls & God of War.

Just finished the demo, have to say it feels like a complete rip off of God of War. The settings, the combat, the magic and even the way you have to kill larger enemies (press certain buttons in the correct sequence).

Visually, very good. But like Hillskill has already said, we'll probably get bored of this genre pretty quickly and to make it worse i've just started Devil May Cry 4 and Ninja Gaiden II. Two games that have been sitting in my collection untouched for ages. I don't think i'll have any thumbs left by the time god of war gets released

Also worth mentioning that the demo will be out for Xbox360 and European PS3 owners tomorrow if you have not already downloaded it from the USA PSN.

I thought the demo was pretty fun, but it is pretty much a reskinned God of War.

Got to say that the graphics were OK, I was more impressed with Bayonnetta (even with shoddy porting).

The combat itself is ok, however, I found that in the Boss Battles the camera angles were poor and if you got behind the boss, then you often were unable to see what you were hitting. Don't remember experiencing this in GOW at all.

Reading how this is so much like GOW, just like to point out that Devil May Cry was released before GOW (back in the days of the PS2) - so you could say GOW is the rip off.

I remember the first DMC game - pure genius - loved it

Anyhows will download the demo tomorrow and have a blast - got the GOW demo as well so will be interesting to compair.

BTW - not impressed by Bayonetta

Its damned cheeky of EA and Visceral to release such a blatant rip off.. but on the strength of the demo I just finished they might have got it right though (definitely more GoW than DMC or NinjaG for me)

Having said that, between Dead Space and this, Visceral are shaping up to be studio to watch.. I'm guessing the PS3 demo and release are getting priority from EA because of the HUGE competition that GoW3 brings to the table.. there's nothing like that on the 360 so there's a lot less for them to worry about!

I got talking to a mate about this though.. and the one thing Dante's will never have (no matter how good the game is or how well it plays) is a lead character as strong (and quite frankly lacking in happiness) as Kratos..

On a side note, I remember when the GoW3 gameplay videos were first released.. oh how the fanbwoys complained on the strength of low bitrate YouTube videos that GoW3 just looked like GoW2 Well with the GoW Collection out and looking great despite its age and a few unresolvable flaws here and there, it bodes well for GoW3 blowing us all away like the originals did on the PS2 when they came out
