Going to pre-order this game and maybe the arcade stick later when i go HK as shipping cost like 30 plus the chance of getting custom fee, still waiting for Cross Edge and KoF 12

I just put an order in for the US NTSC special edition ( the only version available at release ) after all the good reviews it's got.

Gonna get this one for sure....along with KOF. Try Hokuto no ken ( Fist of the north star ) also if you can. I have it on my Atomiswave and its one of the best 2D fighters around......lets hope Arc System keep up the good work. Long live 2D.

Got mine today from gamestop (US), along with their exclusive artbook (not really a book at 32 pages). Not bad, sent on Monday night/Tues morning and here on Wed afternoon.

I'll 2nd Moogle's recommendation of the SF IV TE Fightstick. Although the stick feels slightly better in my 360 version than my PS3 one.

Re: BlazBlue:Calamity Trigger - Preview Thread

I'm looking forward to playing a quality 2D fighter. It's been quite a while since there has been one. As good as Street Fighter IV is it's not a true 2D game. I never really got into the Guilty Gear series but hopefully BlazBlue will be different. Out of interest what was the total cost with shipping from Gamestop ?

Woah, totally forgot to think of the extra video as being Blu-ray, and therefore possibly region locked. Thankfully it isn't!?

Looks like there's only a handful AVFers who have ordered this game for their PS3s. Oh well...

And stu.artd, stop being a tease and show me some pics of the kind of package I should be looking forward to next week...

It's at times like these when I'm thankful that PS3 games aren't region locked. Because I hear XBox360 PAL users have reason to be disappointed -

Edit: Search Youtube for "Hitler discovers the shocking truth about Blazblue" - Funny vid, but (contains strong subtitled language).

You're right. I thought my post would contain just the link to the vid, but no matter what, it always seems to embed the Youtube video.

Cheers -

That's why it's better to order from Videogame Plus in Canada. I paid 44 including shipping. There won't be any customs charges as they put a value of $20 Canadian on the package.

lonfar, you'll be paying about the same as me then.
Although Gamestop state $59.99 then $14.99 shipping it's always changed to $19.99 when I order from them.

The Blazblue arcade sticks do look nice.

Oh, this is VG+

Fair enough. Not too bothered about the art book myself. I rather save money by avoiding customs charges.

Why ? You can just import it anyway like others in this thread have done. Considering the game has been developed and published by a small company and is a bit of a niche fighter there is no guarantee of that. Having said that it's possible 505 Games will pick it up like their last game Battle Fantasia although nothing has been announced yet.

Re: BlazBlue:Calamity Trigger - Preview Thread

Got my copy this morning (thanks for the pics Stu.artd, much appreciated). And after just about getting the hang of things, I'm really starting to enjoy it. Managed to pull off most of the combos (currently using Ragna) that are on the bonus help disk. And with a few hours work in the training mode, the fighting system is starting to make sense. I've only scratched the surface of the game (only used Ragna), but already I'm enjoying this much more than Street Fighter IV.

For me, Street Fighter IV was very frustrating. I did my best to pull off all the combos in the training modes, but some I just find way too hard. And not just hard, but verging on the edge of "no way, that's impossible" territory. I realise that there are a lot of skilled players out there who find it easy to pull them off, but I'm definitely not one of them. But with BlazBlue, I get none of that frustration. Sure, it's a different fighting system to what Capcom have mapped out, but it's certainly one I prefer. The main thing is that the time window you get for pulling off advanced combos seems much longer in BlazBlue, and as a result, the whole package feels much more accessible so far. As mentioned, I've only been using Ragna, but that's my opinion so far, and not once have I banged on my arcade stick in frustration. Which happenned constantly during my Street Fighter IV sessions.

One thing that I must say that I'm impressed with is the English dialogue. I've only been through the 'arcade' mode with Ragna, but what I heard from him and his opponents was great. There's obvious cheese in there, but there's a lot of belief in the way the voice actors deliver their lines. And alongside the art style, it makes it feel like an interactive anime. Great stuff!

Also, the tune that's played during the options screen (after it says "press start") is awesome.

Re: BlazBlue:Calamity Trigger - Preview Thread

Is there any sign of a UK release date?

I'm not really a fighting games fan but, this one piqued my interest with its supposedly good story mode. Despite this and reviews being fairly positive, I'm not really that keen on importing it from elsewhere...

As far as I'm aware there is no release date yet. 505 Games released the previous game by Arc Systems called Battle Fantasia here in the UK. However that game was not reviewed well and I don't think it sold well either.

Re: BlazBlue:Calamity Trigger - Preview Thread

Decided to try and play a few games online yesterday. I lost them all. So I now hate this game....

Seriously though, there was a lot of lag. I had to slow down the speed of my button presses in order to pull off all of my combos. I never stood a chance. It may have just been a bad connection between myself and my opponent in that specific room though. I'll try again when I get my pride back.

Hey lonfar (and Stu.artd), how smooth have your online battles been? You're in the UK, right!?

Re: BlazBlue:Calamity Trigger - Preview Thread

I bought the Ltd Edition version w/o Artbook (via ebay) after reading some reviews on then checked out a few of the videos. I haven't owned a fighting title since SC on the NGC (oh and Tekken on PSP )

It arrived yesterday and I had a quick go of the Arcade mode, it does seem pretty good. I will try another go on it this afternoon/evening when I get home from work....
