Re: Operation Flashpoint 2:Dragon Rising - Play and Help Thread

Please only post play and help related stuff here. Any posts regards mine has arrived or mine still hasn't been posted should go in the preview thread which will remain open for a few more days. Any such posts in this thread or any other play and help threads will just get deleted. All too often people seem compelled to post such irrelevant information and cluttering up the threas. It won't be tolerated anymore.

Re: Operation Flashpoint 2:Dragon Rising - Play and Help Thread

Had a quick go with this tonight and enjoyed it. I got as far as the second checkpoint on the first mission. Something hit us and killed 2 of my men, one got his head blown clean off! I then got shot and led on the floor for a few minutes and slowly bleed to death. Not sure what I was supposed to do, no matter what buttons I pressed I couldn't heal, apply a field dressing or anything. The one guy that was left just stood around shooting at enemies and shouting out what position they were in, thanks mate you could have helped me or something.

Good fun so far though.

I'll be playing tonight.

I have a bad feeling that Codemasters have lost the buzz from the original that I'm hoping to rediscover!

Re: Operation Flashpoint 2:Dragon Rising - Play and Help Thread

Been looking for reviews on the multiplayer aspect of this game. I don't have time for the 1 player side of games.

Not much info on the multiplayer, has anyone tried it yet, and what do you think. My favourite shooter's are Socom & Killzone, not really into COD as its too arcadey for me.

So appreciate any feedback on the multiplayer please.

Wow this is hard! Anyone know how to take out the APC on the first mission at the Sam site? 2 of my men died instantly from it and I followed suit shortly after

Re: Operation Flashpoint 2:Dragon Rising - Play and Help Thread

Well sitar I'm loving it, if you're really a hardcore COD fan and prefer the fast paced rundown and gun, then you may not like it. If you like the socom games, then I think you will. It's slower paced, but when the action kicks in, the suspense is awsome, as any second the screen could just go black and that's it, back to the last checkpoint.
The weapons are good, I'm loving the m4 marksmen rifle so far and those Jdam rockets are awsome!

Not had any issues so far with squad command, but must remember where I park the vehicle as it's a long walk otherwise

anyway, must get back to my assault on the village !

I'd say the visuals are ok, but not a patch on Killzone 2. I've only spent about an hour in the game and thats my view so far. Trees seem to pop into view if you turn too quick. Up close the terrian looks a little dull. It's good, but not Killzone when it comes to looks.

Re: Operation Flashpoint 2:Dragon Rising - Play and Help Thread

Well after about 14 hours playing time I'm still loving it

There are a few bugs and issues but hopefully these will be sorted, there is a patch being worked at the moment.

The graphics aren't stunning up close, however in the blinding the dragon mission (number 2) you'll realise why - towards the end of the mission you scale a high ridge, and looking over the valley is awesome. With the amount of stuff its having to render I really don't mind some bad textutes etc. I'd actually say the graphics are stunning, but in a totally different way to we're used to.

Compared to say, Killzone it doesn't appear to be anywhere near as good, however, killzone is a corridor shooter, you can't compare the single player campaign as they are very different, if you compare it to the biggest map in KZ, the textures aren't as good up close, and there is a bit of pop-in, however (as said above) it's sunning for me in a different way, and thats in terms of scale. When you come to complete the end of the the 2nd mission you'll ascend a big hill, and when you look over the ridge you'll be overlooking a huge valley which must be 5-6 miles in length, which you can see the whole length of, with a couple of choppers taking out enemy positions and tracer rounds flying about the sky. If you then look back at where you've come from you'll be able to see right back to the coast, and according to the mission stats I'd walked over 3km in that one mission

There are mission timers on some missions, but they are realistic timers relating to the mission, i.e. helicopters are 5 mins away, so you need to destroy the anti air site before they get in range, really well done I think. Makes things tricky when you've got 1 minute to go and are pinned down by enemies on hardcore though

Some other nice touches, like on the first mission, it starts out at close to sunset, but by the time we'd taken out all the objectives (including a jeep ride up and down the island ) it was nearly dark enough for NVG's If you looked up the stars were coming out and the moon had risen Same on the 2nd mission it's dark when you start but by the time you're at the end it's starting to to get quite light too, dawn has broken

Re: Operation Flashpoint 2:Dragon Rising - Play and Help Thread

I didn't like killzone 2, i found it too sluggish, this on the other hand is awsome. Sometimes the AI team are a pain and it's just easier to let them die, for instance on the fuel depot mission, I blew the charges and then tried to extract, I kept telling the team where to go, but they were more interested I'm taking on the enemy than retreating.
I even roared up in a jeep and instructed them to get in, but 1 just lay on the floor putting down fire

also noticed you can't run over the enemy, they just bounce up and then shoot you to pieces!

It's a great game, some minor flaws, but the island is huge

Re: Operation Flashpoint 2:Dragon Rising - Play and Help Thread

I played it for a few hours last night and I've got mixed opinions...

I'm a bit of a newbie to this genre, and one of the main gripes for me is you are literally just thrown into the action even on the lowest 'normal' difficulty setting. I would have liked a couple of tutorial missions that give you a bit more understanding of the orders, formations, etc. as the tutorial pop-ups on the first mission don't really explain anything. The time you get to take out the radar array on the second mission is pretty short as well considering the number of enemies around.

The AI seems pretty decent: On the second mission having completed the first objective, a gunship approached; my team shot at it forcing it to land and then the crew got out and we exchanged fire. Any tips on being more stealthy would help - my team don't seem to follow orders particularly well and open fire even if I don't want them to. You can see the enemy slowly moving towards your position, they take good defensive positions, etc.

I agree about the atmospherics; the time of day cycles really add to the feel of the game, smoke effects are good for the large explosions, background noise and chatter is good (your team start to whisper if enemies are close). Overall you feel part of a large combat offensive rather than being on your own.

Graphically, it would also benefit from being 1080p as enemies are very difficult to spot at long distance - your team always seem to see them before you do. The trees and grass are not great, especially if you are prone - you just get a mess of low res foliage textures on the screen. I guess this is due to the large vistas you get once you are on a ridge etc.

A few more hours playing is needed methinks!

I was going to type practically everything you mentioned above so you've saved me the job.

I was very worried when I started playing because I'm one of those weirdos that like to invert the look direction and there didn't seem to be an option for it! Luckily there is, it's just tucked away under 'advanced' controls. I don't feel like an advanced player but if they say so.

I'd say it's on a par with Battlefield Bad Company.

Re: Operation Flashpoint 2:Dragon Rising - Play and Help Thread

Sorry for this, it may turn out to be a stupid question.

Is there much of a single player game on this? As i'm sure when i read about this a while back it was mainly online gameplay.

As my Dad likes these kinda games, but doesnt play online at all.

Thanks.
