Am pretty frustrated with this, the stuff I've seen says that to input cheat codes you press up to bring up the phone and then up again to access the keypad but if I press up the phone comes up showing 'multiplayer' and pressing up doesn't do anything but make a phone beep noise.

Is cheating only activated once you've done some stuff in the game as I've just been driving around and haven't done anything mission related at all?

You should be able to press up twice (so you can put the phone numbers in manually) at the very start of the game but it's been a while since I was at the beginning so I'm not 100% sure though... maybe you have to do the first mission for Roman as I think he gives you a mobile phone so you can call him to warn about the Albanians.

Does seem that you need to do some missions to be able to do this - thanks Fmri.

Have always used GTA games as just a big sandbox to mess about in - I've never played the missions in these games more than I have to to open up the map. Haven't even done that yet here, will have to do a bit of proper playing to get some cheats and then get back to just driving around and causing mayhem.

A guy on another forum told me about gamefaqs.com - they've got saved games for GTA4 so managed to grab one of those and now have the whole map, a stack of cash, loads of nice cars and the phone so can use the cheats to get some nice juicy weapons too. I do realise that it is very much against gaming morals to use cheats or to load in a save game but this really is great for me, to have the whole city opened up so I can just muck about. Am looking forward to spending loads of time exploring the map and just racing around the place!
