Finding Bikes

I'm currently on a bit of a Unique jumps mission.

Does anybody have any suggestions on the best place to find a sportsbike. I literally spent 20 minutes last night driving round looking for one. In previous games you could normally find bikes in certain locations if you needed one.

Does anybody else agree that bikes seem to a be a little thin on the ground and hard to find?

Re: Finding Bikes

Bikes sure dont seem to be common, i love bombing about on a PCJ or NRG...

Places i've found them semi-regularly:

- go past the pool where you get Little Jacob missions, past the burger shot, and there's a garage / parking lot, you sometimes seem to get a PCJ there.
- middle island, west side opposite your middle safehouse. This is even less reliable. But there's sometimes one parked along those roads to the west of the park / Star Junction area.
- dirt bike always seems to be parked on the north of the third island by the big abandoned house.

Apart from that it's a bit hit and miss. I grabbed a NRG900 and then drove about till i spotted another, parked that one in a safehouse, grabbed the next -repeat- till all my safehouses have one NRG/PCJ and a car out front.

Re: Finding Bikes

Don't know whether its a fluke but found a 100% (so far) location.

The first mission for Stevie is to steal a PCJ. Found the location on the internet and theres always a bike parked there which regenerates. I'm guessing its unique to where I am in the Stevie missions but I've stockpiled a fair few at a couple of safehouses so I'm sorted for a while.

I'm not sure if this is a consistent location.

Re: Finding Bikes

There is a shop on the third island that displays just bikes in the window (like the grotti showroom for cars on the second island) - go there, drive a car through the window and drive away with your lovely new bike

Re: Finding Bikes

Anyone else find the handling of the bikes atrocious - So hard to turn... even at low speeds.

I really preferred the handling of the bikes in San Andreas - I used to be amazing on a bike in that game, but now I can't seem to turn the bloody things...

I think the cars handle really well in GTA4 and the physics are brilliant for cars but just not for bikes...

Agreed, I hardly ride them at all now, if you crash one you pretty much die instantly, realistic I know but annoying in the extreme.

Re: Finding Bikes

If you actually put the crash helmet on i've been told you take less damage when you crash. I dont know if this is true, but you never die with it on. Pity wearing the leather jackets, especially the one from the biker mission, dosent also reduce damage (EDIT: actually i havent checked Claude's clothes for damage absorption, maybe they give a secret bonus?). But yes, the amount you take flying off a bike seems disproportionate compared to say being shot with a shotgun, or flying out the window of a car at high speed - maybe R* is subtly anti-bike?

Also re: handling, shifting your weight about seems to help with cornering; ie try leaning forwards to load the front suspension, it will swap from under to oversteer. It's kinda subtle, be easy with the stick, but i really love the bike handling in GTA4, and would even say it's better than the Moto GP 06 game!
