Talk-Talk and AOL multiplayer users?

Anyone using the above ISPs?

Have you had any issues connecting to GTA IV online? I have 2 firends who cannot connect to my games - whereas I have successfully hosted for 8 of my other buddies. They have tried several things including DMZs, port-forwarding, firmware upgrades - but still have no luck.

So, if you use Talk-Talk or AOL, could you let know if it works for you OK, or more importantly, you had problems, how did your resolve it?

Cheers.
Mick.

I'm on AOL, & sometimes get this issue. I just try a few times though & it eventually works. I'm not so sure whether or not it's because of my ISP though.

I'm also with AOL, while I have not played much multiplayer, I have had no issues connecting to random games or friend hosted games.

Re: Talk-Talk and AOL multiplayer users?

Cheers for the replies. I must admit, we've run out of ideas of what the problem is with those two. One of them has the exact same router & configuration as myself, I'm fine, he's not. They are the only two using those ISPs out of us lot - so I'm beginning to wonder if their ISPs are blocking some ports as part of their traffic management (assuming the traffic manage their networks...)

Re: Talk-Talk and AOL multiplayer users?

I've not noticed too many problems with GTA online - but i havent been on a lot recently.

On my PC though, i've had lots of dropped connections and slow loading pages.

AOL have recently "increased my speed" (couldnt only get 0.5MB previously!) which has led to my connection being unstable. I also think they have been changing some customers over to essentially use the same ISP as carphone warehouse.

now if i use speedtest.net, it reports my ISP as "carphone warehouse broadband services" - whereas before it was AOL.

not sure if these changes are affecting all AOL customers, but i think the time has come for me to move on from AOL .

That's interesting. I'll get them to visit speedtest and find out which ISP they both have! Cheers for that.

Re: Talk-Talk and AOL multiplayer users?

Just to give a little more information that may help to narrow down your friends problem options: I believe AOL do have a "fair usage policy" which means they are traffic managing their service . I am on the up to 8 meg package and so I don't really notice if this is being done to me. I also don't use the original AOL modem but a Netgear wireless router. Hope this info may be of some use.

Re: Talk-Talk and AOL multiplayer users?

Traffic shaping isn't in use on AOL - you only need to look at torrent speeds to notice this (they aren't capped).

I'm on AOL and it's been fine. Only played a couple of times though. The multiplayer aspect has strangely not interested me much.

Re: Talk-Talk and AOL multiplayer users?

Cheers for all the replies.

It now seems that they have resolved their issues by configuring their routers to assign their external IP address to their PS3s...
