Exclamation GTA IV FPS Lag - Who has it?

Sorry if this has been done before but I did do a quick search, anyway what I would like to know is how many people out there are suffering from this very annoying FPS lag that seems to be plaguing my system.

The FPS lag can get very bad sometimes, I have noticed that cars seem to fast-forward very quickly mainly when doing missions, for example when you do a car chase mission and the cars in front are flipping over towards you they go into turbo fast mode but everything around them is at the same pace.

Makes the game unplayable when the FPS lag kicks in.

firing the gun and it taking to long before the bullet hits their designated target and it depends on the game im in so is most likely based on the host or psn network as opposed to the console type its run on.

Its basically when the Frames Per Second (FPS) that the game is outputting drops quite low and causes jittery and slowed down graphics, if you are experiencing it then you would more than likely know.

I have just wiped my PS3 to try to solve it.

Re: GTA IV FPS Lag - Who has it?

I haven't had real problems with this on my 60GB PS3. It cropped up once when gaining height in a helicopter and that's it. The occassional missed frame during 6 star police chases has cropped up but it isn't enough to make you lose track or anything.

This could be because I'm not connected to the internet on my PS3, but I haven't downloaded the update at all.

Re: GTA IV FPS Lag - Who has it?

I have a 60GB Launch PS3...

I get poor framerate all the time - but it's MUCH MUCH worse during multiplayer online (even as bad as one frame a second during GTA Races Online when there's alot of action on screen ) - Makes the game unplayable when that happens (it happens alot!).

I also notice loads of popup and tons of lag with the textures (even on single player) - sometimes things like the road/wall textures don't load until I've driven past them when driving quickly.

The game completely crashes/freezes alot during multiplayer too (inbetween games rather than during play).

R* need to sort this out - It's really getting to me now. Also - the graphics are pretty crap, so why the terrible framerate??? Can surely only be shoddy programming?? The game is only 640p on the PS3 yet they have the guts to claim that it's 1080p on the back(!??) - I have been a massive GTA fan from the very beginning and really wanted to love this game - however, this game needs sorting out.

There are countless other people online (both on the X360 and PS3) saying exactly the same thing - they are getting terrible framerates. R* better start listening or this will be the last GTA game I end up buying. There's no point bringing out a patch after everyone's completed the game already. For a software company making billions out of GTA, you would expect better to be honest... I don't pay £40 to be a Beta tester. It's not like we all have different spec machines with different graphics cards / motherboards - they would have known about all of these issues before the game was launched.

Re: GTA IV FPS Lag - Who has it?

Actually noticed my first bit of judder last night during the mission where you attend a job interview. Whilst trying to lose the fuzz afterwards I ploughed through a roadblock in a truck and it must have gone down to about 2-3 fps for about 5 or 6 seconds.

Only time I've encountered slowdown so far so I'm not too fussed. It's a little disappointing but at least I was only driving in a straight line at the time anyway.

Re: GTA IV FPS Lag - Who has it?

I'm in the same boat as Master Yoda, the fps is low most of the time, and it seems as if the game was running on a slow PC. honestly, I can't see how it could be running so slowly with such sub-par graphics...such a shame

Re: GTA IV FPS Lag - Who has it?

I have it too, most noticeable when driving fast, or panning left to right quickly, you can see the screen jitter.

I'm getting used to it now though!

Re: GTA IV FPS Lag - Who has it?

A guy on another forum brought up an interesting point - everyone has low fps (below 30fps), but most people don't notice it, because, being console gamers, they are used to that. PC gamers, on the other hand, are used to having high fps (60fps and up), and when something is way below that, it's just a lot more apparent to them. Seeing as I only recently became an active console gamer, switching over from PC gaming, maybe he actually does have a point....
