Is there a way to hear 'chat' without a Headset

On the few occasions I have played Multiplayer games, you can see an icon for people in the lobby who have Headsets.. But you can't hear them unless you have your headset on.

Other games (Such as COD, Warhawk, etc), output 'chat' to the TV/Speakers when there is no headset and then through the earpiece if its available...

But it appears that by default, you can only hear chat if you have a headset..

Is this really the case, or is there a way to output chat to the same output as normal game sounds?

yes, you go into the audio settings on the xmb and select if you want the output to go through your headset or speakers.

I have the chat going through the headset personally as I don't like to hear teenagers screaming in my living room

So you have to do this at the XMB level? Doesn't the game take care of that..

In all other games with Chat (well most) such as COD4, Warhawk, etc.. If you don't have a Headset attached, it will come out the speakers.. If you do, it comes out of the headset.

Re: Is there a way to hear 'chat' without a Headset

Has anyone actually tried this and had it work? I've got the output set to my speakers as opposed to the headset but unless my mike is switched on I don't hear anyone. Likewise in all the time I've been playing on line when a player doesn't have a mike icon they can't hear those of us that have....

Re: Is there a way to hear 'chat' without a Headset

Personally I think the comms on this game are excellent, far clearer than COD4 and even better than Resistance was. A push to talk option would have been nice as opposed to open mike all the time but it definitely improves the on line stuff immensely, especially if doing the Hangmans Noose, Deal Breaker, Bomb Da Bass type games with others that have mikes.

Nothing more annoying than everyone piling into the helicoptor close to a good time and the guy with no mike jumps in a baggage cart and tries to drive to the extraction point as he can't hear everyone else screaming at him to get in!
