My PS2 has started turning itself off whilst I'm playing. I've researched this online and the only reason I've found is overheating, but the PS2 is not on long enough to overheat so I'm thinking this might not be the reason.

Anyone got any thoughts?

Playstation 2s need active cooling so make sure your ps2 fan is going around visually and if not either suck out all the dust preventing it from going round or replace fan.

It could be a psu fault but if you get like a 1min before switching off or something it could well be due to loads of dust and fan not working.

If its modded then possibly a mod wire has worked loose causing the ps2 to shut down after a while.

Cheers. I fetched it all out the cabinet, gave it all a going over with a duster, wasn't really that dusty anyways, but fingers crossed it seems to have done the trick.
