PS2 and Samsung 52 inch...crappy picture...help!

I just purchased a Samsung LN52A550 52inch LCD flat screen. It works great but when I hooked up my PS2 to my new tele the picture looks horrible (dark and fuzzy). I play Socom religiously.

I tried messing around with the brightness and contrast, etc but everything I tried didn't help.

Can anyone offer any advice!!??

Winston

Hi and welcome to the forum.

How are you connecting your PS2 to the Samsung? If not already, you will need to use a component video cable to get a better picture with a screen that size. The PS3 one will also work with the PS2. I don't use the official one but a cable I got from Game - other people have had quality problems with this one.

Bear in mind that the PS2 is a last generation console so its graphics output is meant to be used on a smaller screen. Hence, on a 52 inch screen the graphics will appear a little blocky (think of the 8-bit generation - Megadrive, SNES etc.). Some people hate this as they are used to high definition quality - personally I think it adds to the charm of playing an older console. Ok, I'm waffling now. Good luck!

I play all my ps2 games via my ps3. It upscales and smooths out the graphics, making them look so much better when connected to my 42inch LCD.

With last generation games, if the game was multiplatform its always best to get it for the Xbox1.

Simply put, the PS2 the games were almost always just 480i/576i. Very rarely 480p.

And often not even 16:9 widescreen, meaning you get the black bars.

On the Xbox1, the games were for a majority either 720p or sometimes 480p.

Meaning on HDTV's for the exact same game you get a much nicer picture on the Xbox1 version.

Furthermore if its backwards compatible on the 360, you will get a better picture again.

I'm seriously considering the A550 52" above spending more $$$ for the 120hz in the higher end models. Are you happy with yours???
