My PS2's broken, really need some help

The disc drive doesn't seem to be working. The console starts fine, I can adjust settings and browse through the memory cards but it won't recognise that there's a disc in there. I've tried using different discs but none work. It's a PS2 Slimline so I can see the laser and it appears to be stuck as far away from the centre of the tray as possible. It was working fine a couple of hours ago and I've not dropped it or spilt anything in it. I've tried restarting the console and disconnecting the power. Anyone know how to fix this?

I had a similar problem with a PS1.
I took mine apart and checked the cables / connectors were pushed in tight 'home' where they should be on the motherboard.
If you can push or loosely move the
laser try that. The other thing to try is a lens cleaner, a special cleaning dvd.

Cheers, I'll give that a try.

January is the time of old replaced consoles hitting ebay. The ps2 being the old. If you want to replace one now is a good time to look. Also limit the range to your local area to see if you can get one without paying postage. Also means you can see it working.

Re: My PS2's broken, really need some help

I'm trying to save up for a PS3 so I don't want to spend any money on fixing/replacing my PS2. I've not tried to get it working again (yet) as I have an original chunky PS2 that I'm currently using. I only really need the Slimline to play God of War 1+2 and Shadow of Colossus (which the chunky one won't play for some reason), so I don't think I'll risk cracking it open until I'm desperate to play those games.
