Question PS2 'family' friendly shooter games advice??

Hi there,

This is my 2nd post regarding this - I think my last post was a bit confusing...

Basically, I am looking for suggestions in finding 'arcade' style, 'family friendly', 'retro' etc. shooter-type games, 1 player, 2 player, it doesn't matter.

Obviously I am somewhat of a 'novice', and haven't a clue as to what games are out there, so any tips would be fab!

Thanks, in advance, for your time....
Kelly

Time Splitters 2 is very tongue in cheek and worth a look.

Re: PS2 'family' friendly shooter games advice??

Hi there!

Thanks alot for the suggestion, I'll be giving that a look...

It's just that since my husband & I aren't that proficient with all the 'tricks of the trade' in playing these games, we're looking for games that are not too difficult to get going with - plus, we're not really into alot of gratuitious violence etc...

But, thanks alot for taking your time to respond, much appreciated!
Cheers,
Kelly

and you want a "shooting" game...would this be with a gun(lightgun), or an old arcade style space invaders/r-type type shooter(shmup).

Re: PS2 'family' friendly shooter games advice??

Timesplitters 2 or IMHO even better Timesplitters: Future Perfect are probably the two best FPSs you can buy. They have something for everybody, single player story, league, arcade, multi-player and even in FP's case a mapmaker.

The only questionable aspect is their family friendliness - the violence is comic book but adult comic book eg. zombies needing headshots, a rocket gun that sets victims on fire and Future Perfect in particular has some of the most disturbingly imaginative FPS challenges I've ever come across. There's one set in a meat locker/kitchen where you have to take down waves of walking beef meat carcasses with a bolt gun. Not exactly family friendly if you have young kids.

I think, I'll try and check, that there was an anniversary release of a whole load of Space Invader games three or four years ago on the PS2. That might be more suitable.

But what comes to mind for me is actually the Ratchet and Clank series. They're story lead single player 3D platformers but the shooting content is high, great fun and the range of weapons imaginative and often very funny. Any one of the three main games on the PS2 would be my choice but there is an more arcade orienated challenge game in the series. I'll see if I can find a link.

Re: PS2 'family' friendly shooter games advice??

Hey - thanks alot to the both of you who responded, much appreciated!

The remark about 'gratuituous violence' is more or less us not wanting the genre of game that involves lots of 'realistic' blood-splattering, brains going everywhere etc.

'fallenangel', I think you've helped put into words what we're after; I am thinking it is more along the lines of 'arcade' style shooting games.

In fact, 'arcade' style games, in general, are probably what we're looking for...

As far as the term 'family friendly' goes - the ps2 is just for my husband & myself, so it's not like we've got kids to be concerned about...

The space invader games are allright, any games involving shooting & blowing up stuff is fun

About 5 years ago, I found this pc game called 'Platypus' and I really did like that type of shooting game - so, my question is 'are they games like that for ps2?'

Finally, I'm sure it's obvious that my husband & I aren't that knowledgable concerning ps2 stuff, but we've played alot of pc games and are quite competitive!

Actually, one last question - do they have games for the ps2 like 'Magic Ball' ?

OK, many thanks to you guys for your comments, and I really do appreciate your time!

Re: PS2 'family' friendly shooter games advice??

Hi...thanks alot for your suggestions!

I will definately check those out...

I did get the Timesplitters 2 game that someone reccomended, but, because I'm such a novice a that particular type of game, it's a bit frustrating.

I have played lots of different pc/video games but don't have any real experience in how to maneuver people about, like in Timesplitters 2 for ex.

I don't know how to do all the 'crawls', 'crouches', and speciality moves...

Maybe I should be asking for 'kids', friendly shooter games?

Anyhow...thanks for taking your time to respond to me!

'Violence free' retro shooting games...suggestions?

Hi there,

Would you happen to have any suggestions, or have you had any experience playing any of those particular games?

I know I can certainly do some research, that is not a problem, it's just that it's always nice to have a 'personal' reccomandation...

Thanks alot for taking the time to respond and I'll definately do some research asap!

Cheers,
Kelly

Totally recommend TS2 and TSFP as above.
TSFP is rated 15, but is very family friendly IMO

PS2 'family' friendly shooter games advice??

Hey there...
Thanks for your input, but this is how 'green' I am...I don't know what you mean by 'TS2' and 'TSFP' or even 'IMO'...

I do appreciate anyone even taking the time to respond to such a novice as myself, I'm sure it makes you roll your eyes!

Anyway...we're looking for these types of games until we can get ahold of a Wii - that is what we really want...

However, any info is greatly appreciated!
Thanks again
Kelly

If you want a game rated E10+ for everyone 10 and up, and when you see the character you are playing I suggest Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters. It is cartoon-ie lots of fun and crazy guns and gadgets. I suggest you checkout reviews for games before you buy them, so i'll attach a review for Ratchet and Clank.
Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters Review - GameScales

Also if you like Size Matters, you cna get Ratchet and Clank: Deadlocked and play 2 people and the same time
