We have been playing Guitar Hero 3 on the PS2 and it works fine. We just bought Guitar Hero 5 and World Tour with the drum kit etc and the PS2 wont play them. It just comes up with disc read error. Both discs are brand new, one from Game and one from Amazon. Has anyone got any ideas whats going wrong? What can we do?

Do youhave any other discs to try? It is possible although extremely rare, a new disc can be defective

We tried these two new discs in a neighbors PS2 and they work perfectly.

Dealing with PlayStation 2 disc read errors - Ars Technica Just found this guide whilst searching for ps2 disc read errors. It's possible different games with different types of dye play differently on a ps2. Ie: your ps2 may be knackered but still play certain games and not others. Worth a look

I've been trying to find definite confirmation but I've come across several online sources saying the game in question is one of those rarish PS2 dvx9 dual layer games. Like GT4 and God Of War these are known to cause DRE problems with some PS2s where the laser is slightly out of allignment. It can also be caused simply by a dirty laser lens so it might well be a good idea to use a purpose designed DVD lens cleaner and to see if that does the trick.

As said by the poster above there are known fixes if it is a laser allignment problem.
