PS2 SCART to Panasonic TH42PZ81B plasma looks like composite?

Hello eeryone, im new here but i have been visiting this forum for a good time now and some have been cery helpful indeed.

just ove r a month ago, our CRT TV broke down and we went ahead and bought a new one to my recommendation, the TH42PZ81B, a beautiful HDTV indeed.

not going to go into too much detail but i plan to connect all my consoles to the TV via RGB scart, which from what i have read will give me the best results that i can get out of my video games console, and i so happen to have a scart lead for my PS2 (the one with composite connectors halfway through the lead) and went ahead and connected everything and even tried out the different output settings on the PS2 bios but the whole overall image quality look terrible. It literally looked like a composite signal (YWR) because the 3D-comb filter was available, and this got me curious, how do i get RGB from a PS2 to my HDTV? this includes for my other consoles, the Nin64, Dreamcast and the Gamecube.

i was wondering if anyone can help me on this matter, because i connected the Dreamcast using S-Video, and despite it been looking abit pixelated, it was nice and sharp indeed. Not to forget to mention, as many times i have been adjustnig the aspect ratio of the TV (mainly 4:3 and 16:9) i cannot get rid of the black borders that surrounds the image

i hope you understand my situation here and i would really appreciate it if someone can help me on this matter.

thanks very much, i look forward hearing back from you lot :D

Scart connections can be wired many different ways , can you post a link or a picture of that lead as it sounds very much like the cable is wired for just composite and left and right stereo sound.

If its the cable I think it is then RGB is not possible with that cable.

hmm probably, but i would assume most scart cables are already made for RGB, and as the one i described, i saw many variants of it that states it supports RGB.

Most fully wired scart to scart cables are made for RGB , however thats not what you described ,

Thats why I asked you to post a picture or link , I can tell from that , Ive seen such leads and if its the one I think then you definitely cannot set up RGB with it.

You posted this description ,

Quote:
(the one with composite connectors halfway through the lead)
Scart has 21 pins assigned to different functions , if the cable is split to any co ax leads , then only 3 or 4 pins of the scart are actually functional , a picture of the lead will tell me what pins are functional as in most cases these leads are color coded.
Note that if the scart is split out into any leads , that only 1 pin of the scart connector is functional for each of the split out leads.

If the cable splits out to yellow , red and white leads , then only the composite video and left and right stereo are fuctional , such a lead cannot do RGB , so a picture will tell me straight away whether or not the lead will do RGB.

See here for the Scart connector pinouts ,

SCART (Peritel; Euroconnector) pinout and wiring @ pinouts.ru

Note that for RGB functionality , pins 1,3,4,5,7,8,9,13, and 15 must be connected , whereas for composite only pins 1,3,4,17,19 need be connected , so it will be obvious by the look of the lead how many connections there are and what its capable off.
