PS2 help needed

Is there anyone in the Maidstone (Kent) area who knows how to diagnose ps2's

I can't pay a lot - currently a gentleman of lesiure but I'm sure we can sort something out

my machine is getting slower and slower loading games and won't load gt4 at all - I even bought a new copy and that doesn't work either

Re: PS2 help needed

It's probally the common case, that overtime the PS2 has gotten dust inside & the oil on parts has dried up.

I would suggest you open it up & do the following -

Clean the laser
Give the whole thing a dusting inside carefully
Re-oil the cogs

It might seem scary, but it is easier then it sounds And there are plenty of guides on youtube etc on opening & cleaning it - it would probally take you an hour for your first time.

I had the same problem as you ( Slowness in games ) Which turned into having to keep retrying the disc for it to even work, then turned into disc read errors! cleaned, reoiled & did the laser inside and it's worked a treat since this day

If you couldnt be bothered or no time or just don't feel confident opening it, i think it would be easier to sell the console on for repairs ( & i am sure a good clean and oil will help! so shouldnt be to hard ) i would think you would get £20 - £25 for it and you can buy a working PS2 2nd hand for about £40 these days.
