So I completed the 'Challenge of the Titans' today. The most problematic challenge was the last one - as you would expect. You can
NOT take
ANY damage at
ALL on the last challenge - otherwise challenge failed! But, after working out some strategies on how to handle the different enemies. I finally did it. Got Titan ranking as well!!
Note: Every challenge has a bonus objective if you do this bonus objective, you rank will be raised by one full rank.
Quick rundown on each challenge and what ranking I got (yes, I’m showing off

)
#1: Rip out a Cyclops eye – Fairly easy, use Cronos Rage 6-7 times stay near him as soon as the Circle appears above the head, hit it and finish him off. Managed to take him down in 17 seconds

Also once you collect 20 Cyclops eyes you unlock a bonus costume!
Bonus objective is to shatter 2 baddies by turning them into stone. (Achieved)
What ranking I got: Titan
#2: Kill 10 enemies in the air – Damn hard to begin with. But L1 + X and L1 + [_] are your friends here. Learn to launch enemies properly. Don’t jump unnecessarily. Once you learn how to launch baddies, you’ll be fine.
Bonus objective is to kill 15 enemies. (Achieved)
What ranking I got: Titan
#3: Kill 25 enemies by shattering them – Hardest part is waiting for the Gorgon to use the stare on you, but you can force her to do this is you try to grab her. She will
ALWAYS respond with a stare attack.
Bonus objective is to kill 35 enemies. (Achieved)
What ranking I got: Titan
#4: Keep the translator alive – You are aided by a Time Statue. So that helps a lot. Also, use your Hammer here. It kills everything much quicker – use only Triangle attacks.
Bonus objective is to keep his health above 50%. (Achieved)
What ranking I got: Titan
#5: Collect 500 orbs – The easiest challenge yet. Equip the Blade of Olympus and use the L1 + O attack. You’ll easily pass 1000 orbs.
Bonus objective is to collect 600 orbs. (Achieved)
What ranking I got: Titan
#6 : Kill all the enemies – Your life is slowly draining away on this one, so be careful! Your fighting technique has to good, hit, roll, parry, jump, glide, magic. Use all of these things to help you. Where you see O above heads, activate them. You will get some magic orbs etc.
Bonus objective is to not use the Rage of the Titans. (Achieved)
What ranking I got: Titan
#7: Kill all the enemies, but take no damage – You take damage, challenge failed instantly. You need to learn the best way to kill each monster. I prefer to use the Blades and the L1 + Triangle attack. Also use your magic, Cronos Rage in particular. I used magic and still got the Titan ranking.
Bonus objective is to not use Magic.
What ranking I got: Titan
After you complete all seven challenges, you will see a final screen. That gives you your overall ranking. I got Titan. Then you get 2 rewards for your hard work. The first reward is the last 2 Urns:
- Urn of Fates – extends combo times
- Urn of Poseidon – replaces Cronos Rage with Poseidons Rage
Now I believe that you don’t have to get Titan rankings to get the Urns, although I’m not sure.
The other reward is the ‘Arena of Fates’. Which basically is a programmable fighting area, which you can place
any 3 enemies into and begin to practice and hone your fighting skills. There’s tons of options to chose from as well. Enemy difficultly, re-spawns, attacks, no. of any 1 enemy. Really useful if you plan on doing Titan mode.

Some of those last few battles were pretty intense, but not ridiculously so. Slightly disappointed in the ending but suppose that was to be expected.
I won't be playing through it a second time though, can't really see the point as most of my enjoyment came from solving the puzzles rather than the combat. Only times I have ever re-played a game have been on the 360 to unlock a few more achievements.
Going to pick up a copy of the first GOW game now whilst looking forward to GOW3 |
Agreed the puzzles are GREAT in this game. Very challenging, some just require you to put down the controller and just take a break.
The boss battles are much better this time round. There were hardly any in GOWI. Much needed improvement in that area.
I did play through a second time (bonus play), and it's loads of fun if you collected the Urns.
Good luck with GOWI.
