Earth Defense Force 2 (The Chikyuu Boueigun 2)

This is my first attempt at purchasing a japan region game and I wondered if anybody knew if this game would work on a PAL PS2 with freeloader? Here's footage of the game in action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dfX-DVCGZU I think it looks like a very cool game (mainly due to the London setting) and it also has a two player co-operative mode. A sequel is due for the xbox 360, just to let people know. Let me know what you think of it.

Golly - that looks mint. I've been looking at the 360 sequel but never seen any footage of this PS2 version.

I'll be tracking that one down myself, but I'm unsure whether it will work as well.

It may or may not be getting a release for the PS2 under the title Global Defence Force...

It's all a bit vague...

http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayP...;-1&sku=524423

A google search for it shows it to exist, but nowhere is selling it??

It looks crap in a fun kinda way. I'd buy it for a tenner just to blow up the Houses of Parliament (virtually of course...)

You can get the PAL version from www.gameseek.co.uk.

It was showing as "In Stock" on the 15th April, so I bought a copy (£9.99 + £1.99 delivery), money has come out of my account, but order is still showing as being "Order placed".

Sent an email to them on the 18th asking when I can expect it to be delivered, and had this reply yesterday...

"Hi i have just passed this onto our purchaser to find out where it is sir,
sorry for any delay.

Thank You

Amanda Jones"

Bit dubious about it now - while I believe they had it in stock, I think they've been surprised by how popular it has been as it was their No.1 best selling item for a few days, and I think they've run out of stock before they took the "In stock" label off. It now reads "This item will be dispatched as soon as it arrives" instead.

I'll update this thread with more info as I get it, and ultimately let people know how it is if I ever receive it!!!

Re: Earth Defense Force 2 (The Chikyuu Boueigun 2)

OK update time...

I received another email yesterday evening saying the following:

"Hi David

Were just awaiting for this game to be released in the UK, sorry for any
error, as soon as it comes in it will ship ASAP

If there is any other queries you have, or any other gaming related
questions you may have in the future,
then please ask as i will be allways happy to help you,

Best Regards,
Steve"

....so just to confirm.... Global Defence Force (UK PAL) hasn't actually been released yet. Yet they still classed the item as "In Stock" and were quite happy to take my money as quick as they could!

I have now requested that the transaction be cancelled and my money refunded - I'm really disapointed - not only that I won't be receiving the game as it looks really decent, but more that this company who claim to the the "No.1 Internet Games store" are so unbelievably unprofessional with their website that they would advertise a game as available, despite not really knowing if the game will EVER be released!!!

Be warned!!!!!

I think the only way to play this on a PAL PS/2 would be with Swap Magic. I can try it if necessary. I would normally run it on my slimline Asian (NTSC/J) machine.

Re: Earth Defense Force 2 (The Chikyuu Boueigun 2)

I thought I'd clear this up for good, so called D3Publisher (Essential Games) direct.

Unfortunatley, they have no plans to release Global Defence Force (Earth Defence Force 2) on the PS2 in the UK.

Having just released the Xbox 360 verison (sequel) they see that as the "growing platform", and said fans should buy a 360 to get this available game.

I said it was a shame and that a load of forums I use indicate a huge demand for the PS2 game, so who knows, the woman may well feed it back and we could yet see a release later this year!

She also made it clear that she would be in contact with Gameseek and Amazon telling them to stop taking money for the "pre-order" and remove the listing.

Sorry to be bearer of disappointing news.

Re: Earth Defense Force 2 (The Chikyuu Boueigun 2)

It was released as "Global Defence Force" and was released at the end of June, you'll have more chance of finding a Hen's tooth, Atlantis and Lord Lucan put together but Teletext's GameCentral (page 805 on any ITV channel) keeps raving about it. I picked up THREE copies from my local Morrisons at a price of...

...£5.99 each!

Who knows, it might hit high in the PS2 budget charts?

There's no Morrissons near me. Sulk. I'm really keen to get the game, but can't find it in stock anywhere. I don't want to go down the eBay route and pay over the odds to someone who bought... several copies... for £5.99 from a supermarket...

Re: Earth Defense Force 2 (The Chikyuu Boueigun 2)

I finally tracked down a copy.

I've been playing for a few hours and, ignoring the below-£10 price tag for a moment, it's a good game, but not great, and certainly isn't deserving of all the fuss surrounding it. I think it's an example of where something takes on an almost mythical status because it's hard to get hold of, like Ico did shortly after it came out.

I'd still recommend it, don't get me wrong, but I don't think it's an essential purchase, let alone a classic.

Re: Earth Defense Force 2 (The Chikyuu Boueigun 2)

I played The Chikyuu Boueigun 2 when it got it's Japanese release, and in many ways it's better than the 360 game (ignoring graphics). Good simple fun, but no not a classic by any means. Best played co-op with a mate, and a few beers, then you get the extra hilarity of blowing each other up (intentional or not)!
