Thinking about PSP Purchase

i owned one a year or so ago, and never really used it, so i ended up selling it.

however, i have got 3 holidays booked this year, and wanted something to pass the time on flights, etc.

is it worth becoming a late investor? ... are there any talks of releasing a new PSP with blu-ray capabilities, etc? .. or maybe a new one is inevitable?

something else that has interested me is video playback,.. i see people can rip DVDs and watch them on the PSP ... watching a DVD would be ideal for a long boring flight... is this conversion easily done? ... and do all the aspect rations fit on the screen nicely?

thanks for any help

Re: Thinking about PSP Purchase

I bought a psp just over a month ago and its money well spent imo, there are a few different programs that will convert films so you can play them on the psp and any I have tried are very simple but I found that some of the sound was not great on some of the programs but good on others, there are free trials for most of the converting software and others are free. I bought the psp to play games and watch videos but I only play games on it now, umd is very clear on it and so are other video formats so you wouldnt need blu-ray playback because the display is very small.

Re: Thinking about PSP Purchase

how long does it take to convert a full movie to PSP format? .. also, how much spacce does a movie take when converted?

my PS3 is a US Console,... would a UK PSP still have full compatability between them both?

Re: Thinking about PSP Purchase

Does not take long to convert any films I tried, if I remember right it was about 30-40mins on my core2duo T5500, most of my films I encoded ended up around 600mb but were very good quality. I dont have a PS3 so have not tried it with my PSP but I know that the PSP games are region free and the umd movies are supposed to be region coded.

Re: Thinking about PSP Purchase

I was in a similar situation. Had a PSP a year or so ago and never used it. Got a 'Slim' 2 weeks ago and cannot put it down.

The quality of games now is amazing compared to when it first came out and now (I think) surpass PS2 levels.

Some of the games I'm enjoying at the moment:-

Wipeout Pulse
PES2008
F106
Metal Gear Portable Ops (+ Ac!d 2)
Disgaea
DJ Portable Max 2
MotoGP
Rainbow 6: Vegas (not great, but fun)

The list goes on - all as I say, comparable to at least PS2 level.

Add to that God of War (which is superb for a handheld, though never been my type of game), FF Crisis Core which looks superb.

I think the PSP has really come into a golden age and for the money (Slim being about £100-£150 on Ebay - $200-$300) they are definately worth it.

Bit naughty, but I would definately recommend buying one from Ebay where you see it has been modded with CFW as they can run things like YouTube and more video formats, as well as naughty stuff that could be useful!

Good Luck!

PSP no question... as I say, most PSP games are PS2 quality now and plus you can get alot of the PS2 ports on PSP.

Aaaaannd you can play PS1 games on PSP aaaaaand PSP -> PS3 link up is pretty cool and only going to get better.

No brainer!

Re: Thinking about PSP Purchase
