Flashing etc

I dont really understand it all but what I do know is my PSP is running 1.5 firmware and devhook 0.46 which allows me to load up to 2.71 firmware. Now I need to go much higher, to 3.90 but dont wanna risk losing the 1.5 altogether and then not being able to go back - is there a way I can just add these more recent firmware editions to devhook 0.46 so i can pick them off a list or do I have to do some complex flashing things? And then if I do flash can I go back??

Devhook kind of died out with the development of Custom FirmWare. CFW basically replaces the Sony official software with one modified to give you all the things you had under Devhook. If you still need 1.50 support you can with an addon, so you can have best of both worlds.
CFW does require you to re-flash the PSP but with the Pandora method its now a hell of a lot safer than it was when we had to use game exploits.
