Help - My nephew has bricked his psp!

He was trying to update the firmware on a prompt from a new game, Bomberman when he first inserted it. It started updating from the game disc but his battery ran out during the update process and now the psp will not even power up.

Is there anything that can be done to rescue it or is it a bin job?

you could try using a pandora battery. You can buy them off ebay or if you search google you will find how to make 1 yourself. I have never used one but know that they have a chance of fixin a bricked psp.

I didnt think that official firmware would allow itself to install if the battery was below a certain percentage.

Well you're now in possession of a bricked psp - if you lose power at any point during an update that's what happens. jphni12 is correct...it shouldn't be terminal and by using a Pandora battery and magic memory stick you could resuscitate it back to working order. Since it sounds like you're on official firmware you could even send it back to Sony to fix if it's still within it's warranty period.

Re: Help - My nephew has bricked his psp!

Thanks for the tips. I'll do a google for the pandora battery. I think I might speak to Sony first - it just does not speak well for the design if a 10 year old can ruin an expensive piece of equipment by following instructions on a new game.

No problem....the net is packed with info on the Pandora battery. May i suggest however that you sign up to Scotty's list on this very forum and just install cfw rather than go through Sony. It'll probably end up being less trouble for you in the long run.

Re: Help - My nephew has bricked his psp!

If its still within warranty ring Sony and plead your case, they’ll more than likely repair or replace it free of charge, I know they’ve done it in the past as a friend of mine bricked his during an firmware update - good luck
