Go!Messenger launches, its free...........for now!

Hi all,

Found this on the maxconsole website...
Quote:
BT & Sony announced today that they have launched Go!Messenger, the new wireless communication package for PSP. Go!Messenger will allow gamers to Video, Voice and Instant Message (IM) each other from anywhere in the world all from their PSPs. The press release states its FREE, but as you may have seen in an earlier report its only free for now and may not be in the future. They plan for now is to get you all using it and then figure out how to charge you for it. Update: it apparently won't be available until Friday.

Press Release

Brings Friends Closer Together With Go!Messenger

Video chat, voice chat and instant messaging for PSP

27th February 2008. Friends and Gamers can be that little closer together with the launch of Go!Messenger, the new wireless communication package for PSP™ (PlayStation® portable) from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) and BT.

PSP users can now keep in touch with each other, for free[1], from any wireless broadband internet connection. Go!Messenger will allow gamers to Video, Voice and Instant Message (IM) each other from anywhere in the world all from their PSPs. When connected to a Go!Cam, the attachable video camera and microphone for PSP, users also have the ability to make video calls to their friends and leave fun video and voice messages.

Go!Messenger has been developed in partnership with BT, allowing users to connect to wireless broadband at over 2,500 BT Openzone hotspots and in and around city centres. Users will have the freedom of a mobile phone except that through Go! Messenger all calls to other users are free1.

“With Go!Messenger, the PSP is pushing new boundaries, adding unique communication features to all the existing multimedia experiences,” said Stephane Hareau, PSP European Marketing Manager. “Enabling more than 8.5 Million PSP users across the SCEE region to communicate with each other, through Video or Voice chat, truly confirms the always evolving nature and potential of PSP."

Warren Buckley, BT Group Director Mobility & Convergence said, “By working with PlayStation, BT is helping to consolidate PSP as a communications and entertainment device that will sit at the heart of a PSP user’s digital lifestyle. For the first time, the PSP community can stay constantly connected through voice and video chat and instant messaging both in and out of the home. We believe that this exciting development will only help SCEE to attract even more customers for the PSP.”

'MONEYTISE' its like something out of a mitchell and web sketch. When will these dipsticks learn that NO ONE wants video calling , it has an incredibly LOW take up rate

Re: Go!Messenger launches, its free...........for now!

Go!Messenger Released, European uses are now able to to download the Go!Messenger client. Also there is a work around so non European uses can install the client. Go!Messenger is a video and voice chat client and Instant messanger. You’ll need a BT account and a Go!Messenger account. You can sign up for both from the Go!Messenger website through your PSP browser.

For non European here’s that work around:

1. Boot to the custom firmware recovery console (hold R-Trigger when booting)
2. Browse to Configuration and set “Fake region” to Europe
3. Back, then Exit
4. Select the Go!Messenger icon, download and install the client
5. Connect PSP via USB or use something like PSP Filer
6. Copy (don’t move) PSP/APP/ULES00856 to PSP/GAME/ULES00856; keep a copy of DATA.DRM in PSP/APP/ULES00856
7. Optionally reset your region back to the default (using the recovery console)
8. Launch Go!Messenger from the game menu and sign up

What a load of cr@p! The application looks good but the registrations is just cr@p. Charge as much as you like BT, i don't want it!

Re: Go!Messenger launches, its free...........for now!

Agreeing with the negatives here. Tried registering from my PSP late last night, page just kept reloading the "What is it?" guff.

Tried registering from my PC this morning, kept getting server errors for about 15 minutes before giving up.

Tried registering from PC again this afternoon, all went through. But CANNOT log in from my PSP, tells me my username or password aren't valid. Really? Why the hell can I log into my account on the website fine AND through the BT Softphone prog on the PC hmm?

BT & Sony have dropped the ball here, could have been a nifty/fairly useful program, as it is, it's garbage.

Re: Go!Messenger launches, its free...........for now!

Dunno what the issue were, but I've just logged in first time using my BT account information and have setup my nickname.

Now I just need to find a head-set/microphone for the slim & lite. Has anyone got any pointers on where to get one from...?

Re: Go!Messenger launches, its free...........for now!

HI,

I registered both mine and my GF's PSP. We have both had this issue about not being able to log in but then they both worked fine on my BT wifi netwrok.

Now my GF's psp will not log in at all on her home network. The psp can access the net however. Any ideas what the issue could be? she doesnt have a BT line so im wondering if that is the case..if it is its rubbish
