A few memory stick questions for CFW

Hi all, I've recently used pandoras battery and put CFW on my PSP. I'm on 3.90 M33-2 and currently have the 1gb card that comes with the PSP. I want to buy a bigger stick for the games, so.....

Does CFW support 8gb sticks or only 4gb?
Will M2 (micro) sticks work if they are in a Pro Duo adaptor?

As far as I remember, I *think* the -2 release of 3.90m33 gave better support for 8gb cards, indeed I'm also running two slim 'n' lites, both on 3.90 m33-2 with Sony Pro Duo 8gb's and see no problems.

With regards to M2, I also can't offer any help here, but if you're interested in actual pro duo cards, then http://www.play.com/Electronics/Elec...B/Product.html
are quite well priced for official cards. Take it from me, if you buy cheap, you most probably buys cr@p.

hth,

Kev

Re: A few memory stick questions for CFW

Well I'm after an 8GB card (I think they are supported), but on Scan.co.uk, an 8GB Pro Duo is £60 and a 8GB M2 is £50, both SanDisk. That's the reason I ask about M2, because I could save myself a tenner

This is even true of Sandisk sticks or do you just mean unbranded ones?

I don't intend buying cheap, that's why I'm looking for Sandisk or Sony. Both are the best for Memory Sticks. M2 is a type of stick, not a cheap brand. Theres Pro, Pro Duo and M2. M2 is "Micro" and is about half the size of a Pro Duo, it's still made by Sony and the usual companies.

I want to try and find out if M2 cards will work in a PSP, as even though they are smaller, you can put the stick into an adaptor which is the size of a Pro Duo, so I intend getting an M2 stick and an adaptor and hopefully using that. It's the same idea as using a Pro Duo stick in a Pro adaptor and then using that in devices that have the larger "Pro" socket.

Cheers for any advice anyone can give.

Mate you can get an 8GB Sony Pro Duo card from play for £55, they're very good! It's worth the extra fiver!

Cheers mate, last time I looked on Play, I only saw 4gb, I think I need to look harder next time!

I'll get that one at that price, can't fault that.

Re: A few memory stick questions for CFW

I've just ordered one!

There was a bit of a price confusion on play.com yesterday afternoon... the 8GB jumped from £55.99 to £159.99 and a SanDisk 4GB that was £27.99 went down to £9.99!

Don't know if anyone managed to buy one at £9.99, I didn't , wasted a lot of time and when I decided to get about 5 (at £9.99!) the prices had changed again on both cards.

In the end I got the 8GB for £55.99

Re: A few memory stick questions for CFW

Do the 8gb sticks work on CFW 3.71? I'm hesitant to upgrade to 3.90 since that caused a lot of slowdown on games run from memstick on my old phat-PSP. Now bought a slim and put 3.71 on it, to avoid the slow memstick writing.

Re: A few memory stick questions for CFW

lapino,

I have a slim with 3.90 M33-2 and my 4GB card worked ok, never noticed it being slow.
I hope it's the same with the 8GB I ordered from play, being an original makes a huge difference!

Re: A few memory stick questions for CFW

Well, when I used 3.90 on my phat PSP, I noticed quite a bit of slowdown in certain games like Test Drive or Outrun2006. Apparently Sony uses a new driver for the access of the memsticks since 3.80 which causes some ISOs to perform sluggish for some reason.

lapino, 8gb cards only work with 3.90 M33 CFW apparently. as far as i know, only 4gb is supported in previous versions.

You could try glancing through this link to see if it helps you.

I patched my 3.90m33-2 with the 3.71 memstick loader and it made the games load quicker than the 3.90 version, but my mp3's took agessssss to load.

Under instruction from Scotty , I backed up my official 8gb card, reformatted it and copied all the data back on.

The mp3's loaded almost as quick as they did, prior to the 3.71 patch.

ymmv, but hope this helps.

Kev
