Patch to Load 3.71 fatmsmod on 3.80/3.90 M33

Dark Alex has just released Patch to Load 3.71 fatmsmod on 3.80/3.90 M33

From the readme

Patch to load 3.71 fatmsmod in 3.80/3.90 M33

The purpose of this patch is to load the fat memory stick driver of 3.71 in 3.80/3.90 to make memory stick reading work better.

Note: fatmsmod of 3.71 usually works better because it has a better cache system, and usually reads on bigger blocks.
(in some things is worse than 3.89/3.90 like sometimes reading more data than needed - lazy prediction -).

However it uses more kernel memory and it is unknown if it will have any kind of secondary effect running this module in 3.80/3.90

The lags in np9660 no umd mode won't probably be solved, as that is a different problem.

UPDATE.........

Looks like some people are reporting that their ISO's and CSO's are running much faster, but they cannot listen to MP3s, load their pictures, or watch their videos anymore. – I think I’ll hold off to see if DA updates this

ANOTHER UPDATE.............

Dark Alex has released version 2 and fixed the music, picture video problem

Re: Patch to Load 3.71 fatmsmod on 3.80/3.90 M33

Well with my Pandora kit standing by I thought I’d give this update ago what’s the worst that could happen?

Well once I’d extracted the file from the 3.71 update loading the mod was a cinch, and it has definitely improved the response from the memory stick and I can still play music, movies and photos only now they load much quicker

big thanks to DA

When I get around to getting another Pandora battery, is this installable on the Slim? Final Fantasy Tactics was prone to slowdown on the UMD anyway but my ripped CSO is worse

Yes its works on both Fat and Slim

1. Here are the instructions on how to install the mod.

2. Download Sony’s 3.71 Original FirmWare (OFW)

3. Download “M33 PSARDumper (up to 3.7x)” PSARDumper from D A’s website

4. Download the “Patch to Load 3.71 fatmsmod on 3.80/3.90 M33” V2 from D A’s website

5. Copy 3.71 EBOOT.PBP from the OFW update to the root of the memory stick

6. Extract the M33 PSARDumper (up to 3.7x) you downloaded to a safe location,

7. copy the newpsardumper folder from the M33_NEWPSARDUMPER folder to the /PSP/GAME folder on your memory stick

8. From the XMB run NEWPSARDUMPER on your PSP

9. From the menu press the Circle button

10. Once is done you’ll have a new folder on the root of your memory stick “f0”

11. Copy the /f0/kd/fatmsmod.prx to the root of your memory card

12. Extract the “Patch to Load 3.71 fatmsmod on 3.80/3.90 M33” V2 file you downloaded to a safe location

13. From the fatmspatchv2 folder copy the FATMSPATCH folder to the /PSP/GAME folder on your memory stick

14. From the XMB run run 3.71 Fatmsmod in your PSP and it will flash the needed files and you are done.

15. Now you can delete the EBOOT.PBP file and the f0 folder from the root of you memory stick and delete newpsardumper folder from the /PSP/GAME folder

Re: Patch to Load 3.71 fatmsmod on 3.80/3.90 M33

Scotty,

I've just performed this and I have to say, I'm not impressed at all with the times it's taking to read my 8gb Sony.

Can I revert back easy to my original 3.90 m33-2 version to test the times?

Thanks,

Kev

Edit:

The games seem ok, maybe a tad quicker, but the time to retrieve all my mp3's is sooo slow. I've tested this against my sons 3.90m33-0 and his is like lightning from the X press at the music menu.

It definitely made a difference to me, all loading MP3’s games etc is much quicker.
Have you tried reformating the memory stick on the PSP?
The easiest way back would is to use a Pandora kit and reflash.

Re: Patch to Load 3.71 fatmsmod on 3.80/3.90 M33

Scotty!

You are one sad dude! , I was fast asleep tucked up in my bed when you replied.

Ok, I've reformatted my card after copying off all the data (ZZZZzzz, oh, it's finished, about time too)

I transferred it all back on and whilst I think the mp3's were still marginally faster before the 3.71 prx was installed, the reformatting has significantly helped and I will gladly live with this, rather than get my datel and custom stick out.

The games definitely load quicker than on my son's psp (3.90 m33-0), so I'm happy.

Thanks for the heads up.

Kev

If your on 3.80 or above definitely yes, but if your on 3.71 and don't need any of the new features from the newer versions I’d say no stick with 3.71 for now

I'm on 3.90 M33-2...

I'll try it anyway.

Scotty,

You mentioned above that it definitely made a difference to you, was that on a slim of phat?

You should see an improvement if your on 3.90m33-2.
you may need to reformat your memory stick after

Re: Patch to Load 3.71 fatmsmod on 3.80/3.90 M33

Scotty,

That is the thing I wanted to know, fat or slim, I had an original Sony 4GB card and psp slim with 3.90-2 and never noticed anything that slow…. Ok, now with an 8GB card it might be different but I wonder if is more noticeable on the fat.

Re: Patch to Load 3.71 fatmsmod on 3.80/3.90 M33

Satdude,

I've got two slims both with 3.90m33-2, and since the 3.71 patch was loaded, I see a slight lag when I *fly-out* the music menu and whilst it internally builds the list of mp3's for the drop menus, but my games load quite quicker than before the patch.

I don't really see any down side, and I did indeed have to reformat my official 8gb card to see the benefit.

hth,

Kev

Edit:-

sorry, this is similar to another reply I made to Satdude

Thanks!

I'll try it and post my review. The worse thing that can happen is a re-flash with pandora.
