God of War Chains of Olympus

Source: Computer and Video Games

The first screenshots of the long-discussed PSP God of War, Chains of Olympus have finally emerged on the internet - and if you've got expert digging skills there's a trailer somewhere as well.

The trailer is hidden deeper than J Allard's wig rack on teaser site Island of Rhodes - though we're hoping it'll soon appear on YouTube for because we can't bloody find it.

As for the screens - which come care of the hoodlums at NeoGAF - they show off an angry looking Kratos and some ancient temples, of which we're guessing you'll be kicking in the finely-decorated doors of.

There's no info on the handheld instalment past what we made up over our lunch break yesterday, but we're expecting some sort of official announcement soon.

Re: God of War Chains of Olympus

I have Syphon FIlter Logan's Shadow on pre-order and will deffinetly be picking this one up too.
What's the release date for God Of War. Also anyone know if Coded Arms 2 is any good and when it's out?

Slightly off topic.
I am growing a nice little legit libary for my PSP now:

God Of War (When it's out)
Syphon Filter Logan's Shadow (On Pre-Order)
Ace Combat X (If I win my ebay aution)
Syphon Filter Dark Mirror
Tekken Dark Resurection
WRC World Rally Championship
World Tour Soccer (Yes I still have it and have never really played it )
Coded Arms 1
Pursuit Force 1
Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories
Ridge Racer

All running on the official PSP firmware, it's just so easy to update using the WiFi and risk free compared to the hacked versions plus I only really trusted Dark Alex's firmwares.

I am still VERY happy with my PSP and still play it as well as my 360.

All Sony have said is that it will be in "early 2008" and close to the US date.

I believe people who signed up with the official God of War site were able to put their name down for a copy of a demo disc, but I believe that offer has now sadly passed.

I hope you can get the demo off ebay soon, this is the main reason that I bought a PSP - the original game is one of the best that I have ever played.

amen to that. That entire section at the end in the massive temple place. Amazing. The music too.... feels so epic.

Played the demo now. AMAZING.
Absolutely no part of the full PS2 experience has been stripped. Controls mapped really well too.

Re: God of War Chains of Olympus

Right I'll give you a brief walkthrough of my opinions.

First thing you'll notice is the detail level. You've got a screen of cannon fodder coming at you and even with that you've got an amarda in the see off in the distance with flame arrows flying between the coastal port and boats. Excellent. Also you have to shoot a boat down in the distance which gives an indication of the detail right up to the distance graphics.

Second thing you'll notice is how well the hardware does justice to the game. It feels smoother than GOW1 and the graphics sharper and brighter!

No loading times enountered.

The controls feel completely natural within seconds and all are mapped appropriately even without the extra shoulder buttons and right stick.

For those who want to know, right stick rolling has been replaced with:

Hold L & R and press a direction.

This works well, the 2nd boss battle (and yes, this is just from the demo!) really does require this to take advantage.

Magic is activated by holding a shoulder button and pressing a face button. So it appears that your shoulder buttons act as contextual modifiers. Also noticed that you hammer o for doors and chests now.

Some omg moments are the fact that the 2nd screen you go to, you get your first boss encounter. Also the scale of the boss is amazing, seeing it plough through the city.

Also the devs appear to be trying new things to the game, with NPC vs NPC AI going on with Persian vs Greek soldiers. Naturally you just wade in and nail everyone.

Really glad to see that they haven't been one to say "oh yeah we've stripped the game down to take advantage of the system/make the game more portable". I find that utter rubbish. Like my dismay at the initial reports of Oblivion Travels for the PSP (which removes all the free real world rambling and reduces the game to a dungeon crawler.... this sounds dire, I don't care if the platform is portable, if I have 5 mins free I still want a FULL gaming experience, I can quite happily use the sleep function thank you very much).

All in all, I think this will see the Syphon Filter grip on #1 game loosened and sit proudly at the top of the pile. If anything can sell a system, this can. And joy of joys, its platform exclusive at the mo!

Normally I be excited about this coming to the PSP, GOW was a masterpiece. But after GOW2 I'm getting just a little bit bored of Kratos now

Re: God of War Chains of Olympus

Its really good!

I haven't played GOW2, but the chance for portable GOW action? Gotta be good. Easily the best looking game on the system yet and the playability is superb. And any exclusives that start to hook people into the PSP has to be a good thing.

Be intrigued to know the story to it more, whether it carries on with the Greeks vs Persians thing. Plus will be nice to know if the game has any more grand set pieces like that temple on the back of Kronos from the 1st game.

If you've got CFW, get on a site and DL it and check it out. 330ish mb.

Re: God of War Chains of Olympus

I was really looking forward to this game for xmas (on both mine & the other halfs list!) but as its been put back i've found another game as a stop gap until its out! picked up ghost rider for £5 2nd hand and lost it straight aways when the missus saw that it played a bit like GOW! its an ok game, bit of racing added as well and its as close as you'll get to kratos until next year!

I downloaded the God Of War PSP demo off the PS3 US PSN store today and put it on my PSP. I've only had a quick go at it but it looks simply amazing and I can't tell the difference between that and God Of War 2 on the PS2. I'm really looking forward to this along with Patapon and FFVII Crises Core. i haven't bought a game for my PSP or even used it at all in months but these games have put a new lease of life into it. LOL.

Oh yeah, its utterly faithful to the 'big' versions of the games. I can't wait to get a hold of that and Crisis Core.
I wonder if FF:Dissidia is going to be good too?

Re: God of War Chains of Olympus

Well Chains of Olympus is a prequel so i'd imagine aside from a couple of in-jokes you'd be good to go with this as your first GoW experience.....but if you have a PS2 don't miss out on the original two games as they are two fine examples of superb PS2 gaming.

Is this game released on 28th March in all countries? Or can we pick up the US version any sooner?

Played the demo which I downloaded to my PS3 from the US PSN Store and the game seems fantastic for a handheld game.
