Cautionary tale. Bricked PSP Go

Hi Folks,

Well, looks like my PSP Go is bricked.

I hadn't had the chance to connect to wi-fi to try out remote play until now. Logged onto wi-fi router ok and tried to log on to PSN. Was told that I needed to do a system update. Fair enough, I thought. Did the download then I got a screen telling me that the battery was too low to do the update but that if I left it plugged in, the update would be performed once the battery was sufficiently charged. It was plugged into my laptop with the USB cable at the time. I was a little dubious about this but since the onscreen instructions told me to leave it I did.

After about half an hour, I checked the machine and discovered that it was switched off. It has refused to switch on since. Looks like an ex-PSP Go to me.

Will contact HMV tomorrow to tell them the sorry story. As far as I'm concerned I followed Sony's instructions ergo it's their problem. Wish me luck!

Cheers,

jah

You may have a point! Honesty isn't always the best policy.

Agree with the above. You turned it on, it was fine but then just froze.

hold on, i don't think the Go charges unless you use the included power supply. Sounds to me like your battery is dead that's all.

Plug it in and charge it from the wall socket for 20 mins then try and turn it on... bet it will work then

Reading back on the 1st post that sounds exactly right! The official cable does not allow you to charge from anything but the supplied power brick. There are now aftermarket cables which allow you to charge from any USB port - laptops included

Ah, unfortunately I didn't bring the charger with me. I just assumed that it would charge, albeit slowly, from the USB. Don't have the manual with me either! Will download it.

Might see if I can pick up a mains charger then.

Cheers guys.

Good news. It was just the flat battery. Updated the firmware now. Need to register and try and get my free game now.

Cheers,
