Playing avi files on a PSP

Aside from conversion to an MP4 file. Can the PSP play these files using some kind of CFW or am I being naive?

The PS3 can play them, my creative can play them, but the PSP can't. I love the screen on the PSP but the conversion times are just way too long to make it worthwhile for day to day use.

Re: Playing avi files on a PSP

I am not sure what the capabilities are as I only just got a 2nd hand psp, but mine plays avi files if I use remote play, but maybe the PS3 is doing the work there?

only way I have managed to play AVI on PSP is via PimpStreamer - its a PSP and Windows application to stream video content to the PSP over wifi

you run PIMPStreamer on a Windows machine and point to your media files then run Pimp on the PSP which connects to the PC and you select the media file and play it.

Only long and tedious ways which require streaming from another source. The PSP itself does well with MP4's though. There are loads of sites where you can find VERY good quality MP4 stuff...
