What are the limitations to video on the PSP, any other media players for the PSP?

I have a CFW PSP and use it mainly for streaming PlayTV/Music .

It would be nice to chuck a view movies on there for when I away, but I can not be bothered with the PSP video conversion.

Can someone remind me the file types, sizes and naming conventions for the PSP, i.e. what will it play.

Also as mine had CFW, any media players that I can install that will play more than the regular compatible files, avi/mp4.

Why is it the PSP is so limited, its a shame you can not also watch the iPlayer for example, I preusme it is system resources?

i didn't think you need cfw to play movies from your memory stick, but only to play games.

Me, personally I convert films from my vast collection on my PC and then transfer them to the memory stick. The movie pic quality upon conversion is mint. That is the main use of my psp - to see films on trains, boats, airplanes and cars as I pass my time ! Most films convert anywhere between 350mb to 700mb depending on length of movie. I sometimes even edit the dvd film and take out the exceptionally long end credits and sometimes the start credits if there is nothing interesting in them before converting them.

I use xvid4psp v5 software. Format I choose is MP4 PSP AVC. video encoding I use is 2 pass quality (probably a bit of an overkill) and leave this running on my PC. Yes , it does take a while maybe 2 hours sometimes, but I'm not exactly staring at the PC all the time. My PC is always on 24x7 anyway. Basically what I am trying to say is that it's easy really.

filenames typically have mp4 extensions and can have spaces in their names. any other questions ?

my psp has 5.50GENB latest cfw version.

You don't need CFW to play movies. What I am saying is the PSP sytems limits the file types, and converting movies is not something I like doing much its slow, time consuming and unpredictable.

I know there are some "other" media players that will run on CFW, I was wondering if any of these will run my movies, even if in DivX or similar.

Oh, OK see what you mean and yes you are right about limiting movie types, but unfotunately I have not gone down that route of alternative players.

It only takes me about a minute or 2 to set off a dvd (movie part only) to convert and another 2 minutes to copy back onto my pc. Although you are probably concerned about the 2 hours inbetween as it's converting ! And porbably slightly longer if you want to edit the films first. = slow & time consuming if you look at it at that way.

Personally I have not noticed any unpredictability nor too much time consumed. I simply leave the pc to do it's job whilst I go out/watch the tv, etc.

I don't like leaving my PC working for several hours, I know it should not be a problem but it just annoys me!

does anyone know if the iphone compatible videos from iplayer work without conversion on the psp?

There is a nice iplayer downloader app for the mac which downloads the ipod versions, but I don't want to then spend ages converting them, and they're already quite compressed so the quality would end up being rubbish
