How much control does Sony have over retailers?

It just hit me earlier on today (Not literally of course ) but for all this talk of what digital downloads will do to the pockets of consumers but most damagingly to the economy through high street stores being eliminated from the industrys needs why are the shops selling PSP GO? Do they not have a choice about whether to stock it or not.

Now, obviously my point about retailers disapearing is a long way off but surely they can all see this as a sign of things to come?

It independants of course that have suffured greatly from the supermarkets and extrememly competitive UK high street market. A mate of mine who owns his own shop, put it this way, he's thinking of what other business hed like to venture over to. He must be scoffing at the purpose of the PSP Go

Re: How much control does Sony have over retailers?

After doing a google search I found this...

Biggest Dutch retailer boycotts PSPgo News | PSP | Eurogamer

The monopoly thing is actually a good point. How will they justify a monopoly of the PSP games market when wouldn't that be illegal?

Apparently the Swedish division of GAME has also refused to sell the PSP Go. I'm actually surprised more retailers both in Europe as well as in North America have not done the same.

Re: How much control does Sony have over retailers?

I think the supermarkets and online retailers will kill high street retailers long before the advent of 100% downloadable gaming ever will.

The reaction online is so odd, I cannot wrap my head around it. For years and years people have been moaning about the likes of GAME and GameStation charging inflated prices, offering restrictive bundles and handing out poor advice.

But now theres a very real threat to these stores and people are crying from the rooftops at the injustice? I'm not saying anyone on this thread is defending the retailers, it's all been rather indifferent actually but I thought it was of interest anyway.

I will be saddened for the people who work at those stores for more than a pay check who will loose their jobs, as will I be sad to see the independent retailers go. As for the likes of Game going under? I'll keep my opinion on that one to myself

don't forget the shops will sell the psn cards.

i have also heard that stores may have ?docking stations? where customers can download games in the store and pay for them there.
