PSP Remote play with replaytv

Hi

I've setup playtv on my PS3 slim, and connected my PSP slim directly to the PS3 via wireless - NOT going through my router.

When I play a playtv recording back on the PSP (via remote play to the ps3 slim), I get about 4 minutes of good quality video, then I get some big stuttering and then eventually it continues ok.

I've tried changing the connection settings to reduce the quality of the video, but still doesn't make any difference. I'm using the PSP slim in the room directly above the PS3 slim so it shouldn't be a signal strength issue.

Anybody had any success with this ?

Hi Matt

Yeah I have had similar problems streaming video and FLAC sound to the PSP via PS3 Media Server. I think the problem is down to the slow wireless speeds with the PSP. My PS3 and media server are all wired so there should be no bandwidth issues which suggests theres too much data being thrown at the PSP for it to handle.

Saying that I did get it to work without the stuttering however at a lower (you tube like) quality.

So try connecting to remote play via the internet rather than via the PS3 directly and it will automatically downsample the video.

Also try feeding the sound to your PS3 and the video to your PSP. If the stuttering stops then you know for sure its bandwidth issues to your PSP.

Overall though I am pleased to get it working to an acceptible standard and I am going to try and find a free wifi spot at some point to see if I can watch my movies etc from outside my flat.

Re: PSP Remote play with replaytv

cheers for the reply.

I'm trying a few other things. When I'm downstairs, the video seems fine, so I think it's a weaker signal/clash problem.

In the bedroom, I've got a Chumby (a net connected wireless info device) about a foot away from where I use the psp. At the weekend, I turned it off when I streamed a PSP video and for the 20 minutes I watched, I didn't get a stutter, so I'm going to try some other tests this week

cheers

Mat

Re: PSP Remote play with replaytv

no luck I'm afraid. Still got the stuttering, even with Chumby off, so it's down to either poor signal strength from the ps3/psp combo or the PSP not being able to process the wifi signal stream and display video at the same time.

I think I will continue to use the PS3 to record TV, but then I'll just copy the video to my PC which can stream (without jerkiness) to my Iphone via Air video at good quality

cheers

Mat
