Gran Turismo PSP not worth the wait?

IGN gave GT PSP 6.8, no career mode and poor presentation given as the main drawbacks. Shame as I was looking forward to this, i'm sure i'll still pick it up though.

Re: Gran Turismo PSP not worth the wait?

My main issues is that there is no online and when playing against AI there is only 4 cars on track in total!

Seriously, is that meant to be a racing game? No doubt the AI will be pridictable and dumb so it could get boring really fast.

All that coupled with the no proper single player mode

But will reserve final judgement until after I play it...

Re: Gran Turismo PSP not worth the wait?

I'm not really bothered about the lack of in depth career mode, I think the open, race what you want, where you want is much better suited to a mobile game. I don't want to have to spend ages clearing championships I'm not enjoying or finding frustrating in order to get to the things I do want to play. IMO this open structure is pretty much perfect for a PSP game.

But as above seriously hoping the AI is better (as with every GT release ), lets hope with only 3 AI cars PD can achive something of an improvement.

Meta Critic score is currently running at 78, Game Rankings score is 79.56 and Arstechnica gave it 9. So not great but better than 6.8.

Re: Gran Turismo PSP not worth the wait?

No. The AI is rubbish allegedly. The game looks mint though, proper slick presentation and graphics. The way that this is pitching it is that you get to drive cars, when you fancy, round courses, on the go.

If you can look past the lack of career mode and enjoy it purely for a driving around courses for the love it game, then thats what it will be for you.

I also hear that when GT5 comes out you'll be able to copy the cars from the PSP to the PS3.

Re: Gran Turismo PSP not worth the wait?

No career mode .. how the heck can it carry a GT name .. yes yes I know it's mobile and people just want to race ... but I was so looking forward to having a career on the go, while I'm on the go ...

Totally gutted ...

Re: Gran Turismo PSP not worth the wait?

So far so good I've just been messing about doing some of the driving challenges and had one single player race. Couldn't find a race yet on multiplayer, but that's to be expected.

Seems slick and what you'd expect of a GT game, think it will keep me entertained for a while

I thought this only had local multiplayer, although would be delighted to be corrected (might explain why you couldn`t find a race though)

Re: Gran Turismo PSP not worth the wait?

Well dont bother with the collectors edition, I did and instead of the Bugatti Veyron I got a Corvette with the enclosed code

I'm either very bloody unlucky or the voucher codes are messed up.

I got the veyron, only had five minute play earlier tonight and I'm impressed with graphics, very slick for a hand held. Can't wait to give the Nurburgring Nordschleife a blast

That`s all I needed to hear. Have you tried this yourself? Planning on buying this as soon as I have confirmation that it works if you run it through Yoshihiro`s decrypter first.

Re: Gran Turismo PSP not worth the wait?

I'm going to try and get this on Monday, need to trade some games in for it though. Are there any codes or anything on the internet that let's you download new cars?

Edit: Is there anywhere you can get the CE of the game without buying the PSP/game bundle?

Play did have their own exclusive with some cars that had different colours (via a download code), though I don't think they do that any more. Meanwhile they do sell the collectors edition which comes with a few bits and bobs and a download code for a white 'Vette (I think):

Play.com (UK) : Gran Turismo PSP: Collector's Edition (Play.com Exclusive) : Playstation Portable - Free Delivery

Bought the standard edition of the game today. Not done too much so far, but I'm really enjoying it.

Re: Gran Turismo PSP not worth the wait?

Im loving this game, not used my PSP as much since i got it soon after US launch.
Done around 60 challenges, mostly gold (few silver as get hard) done around 500 miles, Day 59 with total of just over 5,100,000 cr won and 33 cars bought..
Currently tackling the later challenges that open up after main section of 54 is complete and waiting for the Bugatti Dealer to come round again to grab the Veyron now i have cash.
Superb game for a portable.

Only minor niggle for me is the fact that after every challenge the TCS is reset and i have to turn it off again. But like i said that's minor as the loading is all near instant (have the PSN Download)

Re: Gran Turismo PSP not worth the wait?

I'm impressed with the speed of the game, especially as a download.

Im enjoying the challenges, getting a mixture of results so ive got work to do! The car physics is impressive, noticeably when doing the 'getting to know your car' challenge and you switch from FF, FR, 4WD etc.

But i find the actual racing a bit lacking. By the first corner im usually infront, then thats it! Just me on my tod. Its needs a little more personality for racing.

Yeah the speed of loading is superb, wonder if the disc version is as good? Doubt it.
Have most Gold/only a few silver and one bronze at the mo, Done 64/102, getting there. Although a few are hard and may not get gold easy as the rest. Annoys me that i have to turn TCS off before each challenge.
Always Use Pro and TCS off. only done 4 actuall races, all the cash is in the challenges won 5.5mill already.

Quite a game for the PSP.

Re: Gran Turismo PSP not worth the wait?

Have the UMD version and most of the laoding screens are pretty fast but 1 or 2 take awhile (does give you the option to install tho)

Not really played to much but what I have done is really enjoyable and really does look great!

anybody manage to get there own music to work yet? (i have unlocked it)
