Get PSP 3000 Or Wait For PSP Go?

I am looking at getting a PSP in near future mainly for when I go on holiday in a couple of weeks, I was tempted by the Go, but the price puts me off considering I can get the below for half the price, and I would probably get a bigger memory card, is it 8gb the maximum the PSP will support?

Also as the GO is coming out and will not include a UMD drive, does this mean they will stop selling PSP games in shops etc and will they only be available by downloading online?

Sony PSP 3000 Black Console with FIFA 09 - PSP - GAME.co.uk

Thanks for your help .

Andrew

Re: Get PSP 3000 Or Wait For PSP Go?

Personally I'd go for the 3000 over the Go.

Yes the Go is a sexier bit of kit, but I feel the 3000 is still the best PSP around.

As for the size of memory cards that the PSP will take, they'll take more than 8GB ones, the biggest around that I know of ATM is 16GB, and they're around £50 or so.

Games on PSP will still be released on UMD, Sony aren't scrapping it. Games will now launch on UMD and via download too.

Re: Get PSP 3000 Or Wait For PSP Go?

When I first got my PSP that's exactly what happened with me, used it for a few months then didn't bother with it.

Got it repaired a few months back, it's come a long way since I stopped using it, there are a lot of great games out and more coming too.

What size Memory Card do you have, I see Comet do a 8GB for £50.00 but not sure what I would need really, perhaps 4GB would be enough for my needs.

Re: Get PSP 3000 Or Wait For PSP Go?

I've got quite a few but the card I mainly use is just a 2GB one, as it holds the 3 PS1 games I play most (Crash Team Racing, Final Fantasy VII and Theme Hospital) and games saves.

I don't use my PSP for video that often so I see no need to use a bigger stick myself, though my brother uses an 8GB one for his PSP.

I'd go for a minimum of 4GB nowadays, they're around £10-15 with Amazon, 8GB you're looking at about £25 and 16GB you're talking nearer £50.

It all depends on what you want to do with your PSP, if you're going to download a good few PSP/PS1 games and put movies/music on it, 4GB would be the minimum I'd recommend.

How much do PS1 games cost to download from the store usually? Can you download UMDs from the PS store? Think I will probably go with a 4GB card to start with. I hear you have to be careful of fake cards with Amazon is that right?

Re: Get PSP 3000 Or Wait For PSP Go?

The PS1 titles vary in price from about £3 to £7 (that's what FFVII cost me).

All games being released now on UMD will be simultaneously released on the PS Store too for the PSP Go, so you'll have a choice to either download it or buy the physical product.

Fake cards are a worry yes, but only if you go through Amazon marketplace (it's the same with PlayTrade or eBay)

If you buy the cards directly from Amazon or Play.com themselves, you'll have no problems at all

Re: Get PSP 3000 Or Wait For PSP Go?

If it's any use to you, Play.com have them in-stock themselves.

Play.com (UK) : Sony 4GB Pro Duo Mark 2 Memory Stick : Electronics - Free Delivery - £13.49

Play.com (UK) : Sony 8GB Pro Duo Memory Stick (Mark 2) : Electronics - Free Delivery - £24.99

From looking around, that Fifa 09 bundle is a great deal, the cheapest I can find anywhere by far!

Thanks mate, I have an early shift in work tomorrow so may pop into town, I am wondering if Game will have that bundle in stock with FIFA as when I looked a couple of months ago they dident.

Those play.com prices are amazing, I wonder how they can afford to sell them so cheap?.

Re: Get PSP 3000 Or Wait For PSP Go?

I'd go for a 3000 if I were you. The screen is bigger, you can buy second hand games and it's about £100 cheaper.

If you're decide to get a PSP Go, Tesco still have it up for just under £200 - PSP Go prices and you get a free download of Gran Turismo is you preorder now. The cheapest 3000 is just under £130, so a fair bit cheaper - PSP 3000 prices

Get some old classic games like Sonic etc - Sega Mega Drive Collection - Platinum Edition (PSP): Amazon.co.uk: PC & Video Games and you won't want to put it down.

Thanks for that Bandos, that looks really good for the amount of games you get, I will prrobably go with an 8gb card for extra space. Any must have games for PSP at the moment?

Re: Get PSP 3000 Or Wait For PSP Go?

I am in the same position as the OP but came to a different conclusion:
PSP Go £199.97 (Tesco)
GT PSP Free
Total £199.97

PSP 3000 + old game £120
GT PSP £20
16GB Memory Stick £50 (at least)
Total £190 (maybe £180 if I get lucky with the FIFA trade)

When I look at it this way surely I'm better off with the latest hardware? Yeah I know the screen is bigger & UMD's can be picked up on the cheap but the new model has bluetooth included & the price difference isn't what it at first seems.

Thoughts?

If you're going for an 8GB card, make sure it's a Mark 2 one.

How useful is the bluetooth to you really? Yes there'll probably be A2DP streaming, but is that enough to warrant the price difference? The bluetooth will also allow you to hook up a DS3 I believe as well, but you can already do that with the PSP through USB.

Personally, I don't think the Go is worth the money.

Re: Get PSP 3000 Or Wait For PSP Go?

I just got a PSP 3000 this weekend and I think its one sexy little piece of kit. I can't believe I have waited until this long before getting one.

If you own a PS3 I think this is an essential addition, simply because of the remote play feature alone which works brilliantly. I can't believe SONY haven't advertised this feature more.

I run PS3 media server to stream my entire CD and video collection in any format to the PS3. With the PSP I can now walk around my flat picking music to play to my setero or directly to the PSP without having to have the TV on (which can be a distraction when listening to music). I can even stream movies to the PSP to watch them in bed. The PSP even switches the PS3 on and off. Plus it plays games, a bargin if you ask me for what you are able to do with it.

All I need now is a second PS3 in the bedroom for a complete multiroom setup

I would imagine Sony may lower the price if the Go does not sell, if they did then I may consider holding off.

What is inferior?
I thought all functionality was the same with the PSP Go also having Bluetooth?
The only think I could maybe consider inferior is the smaller screen but surely that is a conscious design decision to make the device 'more pocketable'???

If I have missed something please advise as I am seriously contemplating the PSP Go but will not buy an inferior device just because it is newer.

Re: Get PSP 3000 Or Wait For PSP Go?

It's also worth considering that there are stacks of older PSP games available on UMD for just a few pounds (and not pre-owned).

Sites like TheGameCollection.net and Shopto carry some good (brand new) titles for between £3 and £6. I check these sites regularly as what they have in often changes.

Now considering that when the PSN store starts stocking a bigger range of PSP titles to download at near their original RRP (with maybe a fiver taken off for some of the older stuff) it's going to be cheaper to stick to buying UMD games. They're not bulky to carry around with you and you have the benefit of being able to trade / sell / loan them.

Re: Get PSP 3000 Or Wait For PSP Go?

If you have not discounted it, you could get the 1000 or early slim 2000 models second hand (look in the classified here) - they normally come with custom firmware for around £50 + £20 for 8Gb card and your away!

I just did this recently and I am playing all my old C64 & Amiga games through emulators on it - It's amazing

Re: Get PSP 3000 Or Wait For PSP Go?

I really dont know what to do now, I am torn between a DSI and PSP 3000, I aim to take it away on holiday, but just wouldent want to then not play it for ages.

Also I am looking to buy PSP off the high steet and an 8gb memory card but I dont know where the cheapest would be. Although the play.com prices above are good.

Re: Get PSP 3000 Or Wait For PSP Go?

Im not saying never but I won't be rushing to get the PSP Go. I really don't want a smaller screen and I wouldn't be able to use the camera or the Sat Nav accessories that I've already got (nice one Sony, not ). I've bought up a library of about 100 UMDs and a stack of stuff on my HD. 8GB and 16GB memory cards are getting cheaper all the time and I can play whatever I want back through any old TV when I'm away with a simple composite or AV connection (does the Go do that or does it interlace like the 2000?).

Although I've got a Bluetooth dongle, I have to say the a built-in A2DP function does sound attractive. Bet it drains the battery, though?

So will we see price reductions for the 3000 on the launch of the Go? I missed the Asda £75 package unfortunately, but would be very tempted if I saw a decent reduction anywhere.

Don't bother with the DSi - Don't get me wrong it's a great piece of kit, but more suited to children. The graphics and screen are far superior on the PSP - Try watching a film on the DS - it's tiny, when it's very watchable on the PSP.

Like i said before, i love my PSP 1000 (with cfw - google cfw if you don't know what it is ) that i got a few weeks back from here it can play all files, i have 5000 Amiga & C64 games on it through the emulator - it's amazing.

Re: Get PSP 3000 Or Wait For PSP Go?

Hi All,

I am back again, I still havent purchased yet, however I am going on holiday Tuesday so am thinking I definately want to have it for the odd bit of gaming while I am away. I just dont want come back and end up not playing it, although my last chance to purchase would be tomorrow, I am wondering if to buy from Argos as if you buy the Mega Accessories Kit you get any £14.69 game free.

Buy PSP 3000 Console - Black. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for .

I went into my local Game today but they dident have any Black PSP 3000's or any bundles it seems, although I would need to buy a memory card too.

Where is the best place to get a mark 2 memory stick from the high street?

Anyone bought from Argos and got the Accessorie pack as it comes with carry case, umd cases, screen protector which are quite useful.

Thanks

Andrew
