When I received my play order, the screen was delivered separately by another company. Strangely the screen came first.

I was excited as a two year old and the wife even thinks it was money well spend

Play should have contacted you to confirm a delivery date for the screen!

Here are a few pictures of the 82" 16:9 screen from Play.com! You'll probably be gettin' the 92" version!

Re: Optoma HD700X

Received my projector mount on tuesday, projector on wednesday and hoping for the screen today (thursday) along with my 15m HDMI cable.
I also ordered the play package.

Found it strange that they would send them out by different couriers. Surely its obvious you would want it all at the same time. haha

Was really surprised at how small it was aswell!
Not what i expected but its better as not such an eyesore.

Re: Optoma HD700X

Yea someone called from Play yesterday about the screen, apparently its coming tomorrow.

I had a few games of Xbox FIFA 09 on this last night, all i can say is that it was AMAZING! i couldn't believe the quality

Ill report back when ive got the screen mounted as im sure ill have a hundred questions!

First off... is it best to mount the screen of the PJ first?

It all depends! It's alot easier to move the Pj around if in the wrong place then having to reposition the screen! It's big and heavy!

Firstly, you'll need to know roughly where you're going to project the image! Remember that the Pj has to be pretty much in the centre of the screen!

Second, you need to know where your ceiling joists are when mounting the Pj! I would'nt know about plaster board?

I had a hand from my uncle when mounting the screen on the wall! Two people make it so much easier!

Even still, my image slants slightly at the bottom left corner where the Pj is'nt level!

Hope this helps!

Re: Optoma HD700X - Part 2

I finally put an offer for a proper screen on ebay. Just waiting for it to be accepted. It is electric and should be the same 80" size to what I already have so it will go where the blind is now. I can always switch the PJ on to make sure it is lined up with the masked borders.

I realised that even 84" would be too big. I can make the size easily but because of the position of the pj, the image will be too far close to the ceiling. It is already quite high as it is (has to be higher than the TV and front speakers)

My screen just turned up, so ill be mounting it tonight when i get home from work, ive got all the bits now and i just picked up some trunking to hide the cables

Lucky for me , my ceiling joists are actually exposed and painted black in the room im going to be putting it, so there shouldn't be any problems locating them

Good luck.

My screen will take longer. My offer was rejected even though the same seller had accepted the same amount from four other people in the last two months for the same screen.

edit.
The PJ is now £470 at Amazon (no screen).

Re: Optoma HD700X - Part 2

I think I may have asked this before but cannot find the post now. Anyone with the 84" Panoview screen from Plays offer, what is the drop of the screen. I can make use of the diagonal but it needs to be able to down as far as 130cm so I can put it up on the ceiling. Is there plenty of black above the viewable area?

The drop when fully extended is roughly 55"! The black area above the white area is roughly 13"! Hope this helps, MichaeL!

Thanks.

I actually found a pdf for the screen on Optomas site. It saids the same. 140cm/55" and 30cm/12".

Finding a screen is becoming a pain now. I have decided while electric would be nice, I think a manual pull down will do. The Panoview would fit in what space I have.

I think it accepts 1080p signal but downscales it to 720p i believe. It definatley doesnt output at 1080p though.

It will accept it as input but downscale it to the 720p resolution of the PJ.

Should I cancel the Optoma HD700X and order the Optoma GT7000 instead?

Which is the beat projector the Optoma HD700X or the Optoma GT7000?

The GT7000 does not ouput 1080p either if this is what you are thinking.
Not sure which is the best though out of the hd700x and gt7000.
I ordered the HD7000X off play.com with the free 92" screen

and also the GT7000 has 1600 lumens as opposed to the HD700X's 1300.

So based on that they are not the same? But i cant understand why the GT7000 is cheaper??
Can anyone shed some light on this.

Re: Optoma HD700X - Part 2

Those differences in reality make little or no difference at all. Once setup, very few will even be using the full lumens. Most will be 50% of what the specs say. My PC sees the HD700 as a HD65 !! They use the same firmware.

I really wish they'd stop arsing around with it.

I'd love them to lower it again on payday for me though. :D

You can say that again m8. I ordered the Optoma HD700X from Amazon for £469.99, then 2 hours later the price went up to £499.99

Stock levels. Once they sell x number to a certain amount left, they raise the price. This is to stop them losing money if they bought stock in at a higher price than before.

As soon as my Dad paid £899.99 for the Optoma HD800, it went straight up to £1299.99!!

I just managed to win a new unopened panoview 84" screen for £70. Not a lot less than norma £100 price but every penny counts. I did really want a electric but I thought they are really just faddy and I don't want the downtime if the motor goes with it stuck closed up.

Re: Optoma HD700X - Part 2

Hi all,

I have this projector (HD700X) and I am throwing a bash in August where I want to use it outside to project as big as possible. It will be dark (9pm/ 10pm) when I'm using it and there's not much light pollution where we are, but I wondered if anyone had any experience using the HD700X outside and how they found the brightness? Was it good from the long projection distance (needed to get the large screen)?

Thanks in advance.

Wellsie
