LCD or DLP?

I was wondering which type of projector everyone prefers, LCD or DLP and reasons why?

Re: LCD or DLP?

DLP for me, no filters to clean, less chance of dust blobs, panels dont dgrade over time like lcd projector do. These are the main reasons i went dlp, also cost my hd70 only cost me £600 and replacement bulbs are under £200.

Re: LCD or DLP?

LCOS or rather DILA for me as I can't watch DLPs unfortunately due to rainbows and the DILA gives me better blacks than I had with LCD.

It's dangerous to generalise based on just the technology as specific product produce different results although they may be based on similar underlying techs. Each of the techs has a strength and weakness thus preference really is down to you personal sensitivities, image priorities, install requirements and budget.

Some potential issues with the techs that vary from person to person are RBE with mono chip DLP and motion smear/blur with LCD/LCOS/D-ILA. Beyond that each tech can handle certain material i.e. darker, brighter and mixed better than another tech so "better" can literally change from scene to scene. You are then down to how the tech is executed in the product and this can have a very significant affect. Typically there will be some compromise hence why your image priorities are paramount.

Best advice is go see for yourself as what's fantastic to one group of people may be poor to another.

Re: LCD or DLP?

Thanks Avi. I wasn't really asking for myself.

Was just curious to see which everyone prefers.

No need for diplomacy people, be happy to pick a side!

The only thing you end up with fan boy, cool aid debates so there's really very little point.

Re: LCD or DLP?

I suppose.

But it's just interesting to see what people love about their own LCD's, DLP's and let's also include DILA's (no discrimination).
