Little help please! HD on NEC MT1050

Hi there im a noob to projectors and i have a couple of questions i would like answering if at all possible. I have tried to research this on the internet and i have come across so many different answers i am just totally confused.

I have purchased a second hand projector an NEC MT1050. Im not expecting the earth out of this thing just a reasonable picture and a bit of fun playing games and watching some films on a big screen.

I am told this projector is capable of producing HD (720p) images but if the native resolution is only 1024x768 how is that possible?? Will it just be scalled down and if it how is that better than standard def?? Surely standard def will be upscalled to to its native resolution??

The projector also has no HDMI or component in only RGB (VGA) and i want to play my XBOX and PS3 on it. Is this just a case of buying VGA leads for them and plugging them in then off i go?

Sorry for so many questions.

Thanks in adavance

Re: Little help please! HD on NEC MT1050

It is not HD. HDMI or DVI is needed for HD input from something like a games console or a upscaling dvd player. Specs on the net seem to indicate a component input through the vga socket. This can be acheived by a component to vga cable. It will still not do HD though.

Everything will be displayed at its native 1024x768 resolution.

What are you going to use with it?

Re: Little help please! HD on NEC MT1050

Im going to use my PS3 and Xbox 360 with it. I assumed i could just buy a VGA cable for them and it will display.

Xbox 360 High Definition VGA Cable (Xbox 360): Amazon.co.uk: PC & Video Games

So when its says on the specs yes to HD 720P what does it mean? That it will take a HD signal but i will just be displayed at native resolutions? Whats the point in that?

NEC Projectors: NEC MT1050 3 LCD projector

Thanks for your help i really appreciate it!!

That cable should work. The pic doesn't show the whole cable so it would have a xbox cable connector on one end with a vga and red/white phonos for sound. As long as the vga socket can accept the 720p, it will send it but it will be 1024x768. Technically it is still HD in the vertical resolution (anything higher than 720) but the picture loses resolution on the horizontal.

It is a 4:3 pj so that is why you have proper HD widescreen projectors that are 1280x720 and 1920x1080 and has all the proper HD inputs.

Re: Little help please! HD on NEC MT1050

Thats great. Well i guess it wont be true HD but it will be better than standard def i assume as there will be more lines both horizontally and vertically?

I believe the projector can also display in 16.9 but i suppose this will just leave me with a letter-box type image with big black lines and the top and bottom. If im right in thinking that, what viewable resolution would it then be displayed in, or is it virtually impossible to tell?

Thanks

Re: Little help please! HD on NEC MT1050

I have been thinking about this and if i am making a 4.3 native projector with a native resolution of 1024x768 do 16.9 then the maximum it could possily display horizontally is obviously 1024 and as the vertical has to be a ratio of 16.9 to the horizontal then the resolution i would get in 16.9 would be 1024x576. Is that correct??
