Broken Marquee 9500LC Ultra

Hi,

My Marquee 9500LC Ultra has really broken down. There is no image(light) coming out of the lenses and i found some liquid leaking out. I have had a local technician look at it but he hasn't been able to fix it. Im assuming one or more lenses are leaking and need to be replaced, but I understand it is a huge job and there is no guarantee it will work afterwards. I have had all the other parts (cards etc) checked and they seem to be OK. I have even replaced the HVPS with a new one.

I want to sell it. Do you think there is any point in trying to fix my Marquee first, or should I try to sell the parts separately. Or is there anyone wanting to buy a broken Marquee 9500LC Ultra?

What do you suggest, what should I do?

Re: for sale: Marquee 9500LC Ultra

This is not a major problem ! Did the glycol get on the boards ?

Was it ceiling mounted ?

If you got glycol on the boards you need to clean it off NOW !

I don't want to be a spolier or anything but in case you don't know your price is high for a non working CRT PJ - Tubes are the key component on a CRT PJ and 9" ones are not cheap to replace..

Its not long ago that a fully working 9500LC was sold for £2400 so a non working one which may have major damage from glycol and maybe a spares machine and worth a lot less than that...

I realise that this was an expensive PJ but CRT values have dropped especially in the last year.

Hi, it is ceiliing mounted and no, there is no glycol on the boards.

I put the price as a starting point, i dont know what its worth and as I say in my AD, it is negiotiable. But that should be discussed over on the sales thread. I cant disuss prices here. I started the thread here to discuss what i can do, if you have any suggestions.

thanks

Not to be a spoiler ? Some on the forums say you are thread spoiling if your only comment is negative, hence me saying as it was not meant to be, just to help with a reasonoble expectation if a sale is the only solution and its not...

Can you name a better digital ? Not that many could afford...

I agree Fix it and don't sell it... It won't be matched in PQ...

Re: Broken Marquee 9500LC Ultra

what leaks is the old Silicone rubber bellows. Silicone is a fairly porous compound and absorbs moisture from the air, swells, and leaks. We now have Brand NEW bellows avaialbe from Apple rubber company in the US reformulated with Ethelyne Propylene, the perfect compound for this application.
Buy 3 new bellows and have someone replace all 3 and re-fill with fresh Glycol. If you consider the rotten old ones lasted 10+ years the new ones will be good for 2 decades or longer. Pics and new announcement here

Re: Broken Marquee 9500LC Ultra

Marcorser, I am going to be in Thessaloniki Greece on the 13th of May till June 9th. If I can get away and head down to Athens I might be able to come buy and have a look. I can even bring a new Bellow if that is the problem. All I'd need for you to have is all the right size tools. If its a bad board that be more difficult. If you could do some trouble shooting with switching VNB's on to the blue tube to se if it is that i could bring one of those as well. Let me know what you want to do. aslo i dont think you will get more than 800 Euros for your broken Marquee in greece, here in the USA you'd get less than 1000 dollars.
If you have another set of boards I could test with it be great also.

Are there any red led lights on in the back of the unit? also look for any lights ont he low volatage pwer suply. you can do this with the front cover off or look through the grill.

Re: Broken Marquee 9500LC Ultra

Hi Athanasios,

that would be great if you could come down :D

Im not sure what you mean by 'switching VNB's'

there is a red on at the back, as i remember its the H fail, but let me check tonight. There are no light at the front.

I might be able to find some boards for testing.

Re: Broken Marquee 9500LC Ultra

ok if it is the H-fail there are two things you can try if your not afraid. The H-fail means something is wrong with the Horizontal Deflection Module (HDM) it is the board between the green and blue tube . Some times it is not seated well and needs to be pushed into the the socket well. there is suppose to be a piece of foam on the inside of cover for it to help put pressure on the board to keep it in the socket. If that foam is pressed in too far from being old you can add a thin piece about 5-7 mm thick
on top of the other foam to help keep the board in place. or if you want you can use some electrical tape and put it across the metal case that is around the board and over the board.

here is a post i put on the AVSFORUMS:

Copy of part of post"

marquee 8100 flickering - AVS Forum

Probably a good cleaning and reseating of all the boards is what's needed.

Here is a link to parts and boards of the Marquee. Reseating of the Focus board and HDM is just pulling it out and putting in in a few times to clean the contacts, you dont have to remove any connections to do this. Just pull up and put back in a few times.
Electrohome Marquee Tips and Manuals

Location of FCM and HDM.

on the hdm their is a daughter board that also need to be removed and reconected.

HDM Pic

Next on the CLM there are some chips that can be taken out from their
sockets, do one at a time. you will need a IC puller from radio shack to do this.

Location of CLM:

CLM out of Set showing chips.

you will need an IC puller to remove the chips to clean. this solves lots of sync issues and other weird problems. I ahve also seen it fix a H-fail issue, the H drive signal was not getting to the HDM.

But many H-fail issues are the daughter board connectors needing to be cleaned or just reseated a few time to remove any oxidation. its good practice to this on all boards and connectors every few months.

Re: Broken Marquee 9500LC Ultra

Also reseat the the two power supplies in the front. The High Voltage one look to see if any Glycol has gotten into the bay that holds both Power supplies. some might have creeped up to the connectors by capillary action. so actually remove them completely and look at the Card connectors on both to make sure none has got on those.

I also see from another thread you have that you recently replaced the HVPS, and it is acting up again... I wonder if the HVPS is gone bad again or it was not fixed correctly. Allt at really needs replacing on those are the resistors in the G2 Section.

OK Dry is good!!

Hopefully it will be the HDM daugter board needing a cleaning
of its connectors. There might be a removable chip on the HDM daughter board too, remove and reseat those as well... some HDM's have them soldered to the boards , others do not.

Or it could be a Bad HDM and the one transistor Tim mentioned in the other thread has gone bad.
