optoma hd700x, you might find one new. Or as others have said second hand models are a good idea. I think everyone will advise you to wait until you have £500 saved though, the options open to you then will be far far greater.

In78 is the first 720p model and they go up from there, but I doubt your budget is enough.

Look in the AVForums projector classifieds, plenty of 720p projectors pop up for sale in there for your budget.

I would think you would be looking more around the £450 -£470 (inc Vat) mark for something new that's decent.

WELL after much research between most of the mid price optomas is some have hdmi some dont but seem identical in every other way and seeing as i have an hdfury i can save a lot of money ie the game times seem almost the same apart from hdmi and i can get a 3000 for £299 same with the other optomas

With an attitude that that you will not get much help. It does not matter how good the source is, HD Fury or not, a 420p PJ will always be a 420 PJ.

IMO, I would save the money you are going to spend on the GT-3000 and either wait until you have enough to get a Optoma HD65 or HD700x or get a second hand 720p model from the classified section. With the GT-3000 you won't see much of a difference in PQ than your Hitachi PJ-LC9.

The GT-3000's native resolution is 800x600 so even if you use a HDFury, it will scale the 720p or 1080i image back to 800x600.

HAVE i missed something what u on about attitude just makin a statement that my pj gives 1080i 720p and the only diff between some of the optomas is one has hdmi the other dont,hdfury gives u that and saves u loads of money

An attitude is classified by putting a whole word in capitals, i.e shouting it.

Just because a source can output in 720p or 1080i Does not mean a PJ will not down scale it back to 420.

I think you misunderstand the term compatibility.

For example the GT-3000, its output resolution is 800x600 maximum so you are not getting 720p or 1080i, it can take those and make them 800x600 so it is 'compatible'. Regardless of how you feed it the input, even through the hdfury it only takes the image and downscales it to 800x600.

Whereas the GT-7000 actually has an output resolution of 720p so it is hd ready (1280x720), so if you feed it a 720p image it will actually output a 720p image so it is an actual hd projector instead of being 'compatible'.

And then theres the differences in brightness, contrast, throws, so based on how far away the pj is will give different sized images, and lens shift which allows you to put the pj at an angle to the wall or zoom the image.

The same way a tv for £50 is not going to have the same pq and is going to be different in every way to a tv that is £3000 even if they have the same inputs.

Theres probably other things as well. All pj's are different, no offence but you clearly need to do some really basic googling before doing anything.

For the benefit of the OP or anyone else that stumbles across this thread: I just googled that PJ and it clearly states the native resolution is 800 x 600 on the page I've linked to here. Also it is a 4:3 format projector, rather than widescreen. While £175 is cheap, it isn't a 720p projector (you need a native resolution of 1280 x 720/768 for that), it will only accept that as an input then it will downscale the image to the lower resolution panel. It's your choice and your money, but it's not what you appeared to be asking for in your original post and thread title.

EDIT: It only has a VGA input that would allow anything approaching HD to be sent to it, which will probably also restrict input frequency to 60Hz rather than 50Hz or 24Hz from BluRay for example. It also doesn't have a DVI or HDMI input as required inb the original post.

Kissman, your confusing data projectors with home cinema projectors. to be 720p the projector must be able to produce 720 lines in the Vertical e.g. 1280x720 and hence 720p. This projector is 800x600 so thats 600p which is not a HD format.

WELL new pj came today optoma ep720 ,big diff from lcd to dlp more cinematic no screen door hooked it up to my blu ray well impressed,only saw a couple of rainbows nowt serious
