Question 1080p for £1000

I am about to start looking for a new projector, hopefully 1080p but i thought i would ask you chaps first. Pretty sure this will have been asked before but prices change and new models always being released so......1080p for £1000? or would i be better sticking with a good quality 720p?. I have a 100" screen with a gain of 1.2 and the throw distance will be about 4.6m. It will mainly be used for films (HD) and xbox 360.TV will be left to the 42" LCD.

sanyo z700 is below £1000 and has good reviews. whichever 1080p pj you choose be prepared to seat a monster as they are all massive. think AV receiver size.

I would suggest the X10 if you don't see rainbows. Wonderful PJ. You need to work out the measurements first as it uses a long throw and high offset.

Re: 1080p for £1000

I've got the 1080p Sanyo Z700 and its VERY impressive for 980 quid, and very flexible in positioning. It replaced an old Infocus and I would have gone with the IN80 myself but its more limited placement would have caused me problems.

The Sanyo, like the Infocus, is a big bugger.

I think a 1080 at a grand will produce a better PQ than a 720, but if your're not displaying BDs (and have no plan to) then 720 would probably be fine.

The Z700 replaced an Infocus X1 I have had since 2002, the improvement is like night and day, better in every way, resolution, blacks, pin sharp - and I was very impressed with the X1 when i got it.

For less then a grand the 700 is a steal

Cheers

Mark

Re: 1080p for £1000

Is the Z700 still considered a downgrade to the Z2000?

I'm not sure if it's a downgrade

The differences between the Z700 and the Z2000 are these:

• The Z700 is a bit lower in lower contrast due to the use of organic LCD panels vs. the inorganic panels in the Z2000.

• Different physical iris mechanism.

• HDMI has been upgraded from version 1.3a to 1.3b.

• Anamorphic stretch mode has been added.

• Retail price has been reduced to $1,995.

The organic panels have a shorter life so resale value will be lower for the Z700

• Different physical iris mechanism.

• HDMI has been upgraded from version 1.3a to 1.3b.

This will have no effect on my useage whatsoever

• Anamorphic stretch mode has been added.

This will never be used by me

• Retail price has been reduced to $1,995.

So for me personally it is the contrast vs the iris?
