Exclamation New Mitsubishi HC5500 no horizontal lens shift!

Hello, I'm about to take the plunge and buy a new projector. The Mitsubishi HC5500 and just found out that it doesn't do horizontal lens shift.

Does this mean my cealing mount will have to be in the perfect position on my ceiling (in the middle) and slightly offset as the lens on this projector is not exactly in the middle?

It does do vertical lens shift but isn't it more obvious to have horizontal instead as most ceiling mount go up and down but don't go side to side.

Thanks.

Re: New Mitsubishi HC5500 no horizontal lens shift!

You need vertical lens shift because your screen position up and down the wall in relation to the lens will be different. If you just screw the projector onto the ceiling and hope you might find that it needs the screen to be right up too how, or conversely touching the ground. With lens shift this gives you bigger range.

Horizontal lens shift is just where you haven't been able to position the mount/lens central to the screen position. This isn't exactly difficult to do, the old school method is still the best - use two identical length pieces of string and run from the top left and right corners of the screen. Where the strings meet is where the lens wants to be.

Re: New Mitsubishi HC5500 no horizontal lens shift!

As it has no horizontal shift... If the ceiling mount can turn horizontally, will that be ok? Or will the image be out no matter what I do with keystone etc?

My ceiling mount is off centre due to where the beams are...

Cheers

It'll be out no matter what you do if its off center. You won't get it to focus across the width of the screen, and keystones always cause a loss of quality. I'm getting the same pj and be careful as it has quite a limited vertical lens shift as well. You may find the pj has to be quite low, a good distance from the ceiling.
