Thanks: Gave 0, Got 0 | Event 11?
Hi was reading Gordon' s threads about event 11 here......
For anyone who was at it previously, how did you find it?... was there much to learn and/or see. Would a novice non crt pj person pick up some good and usefull info or is it mainly a CRT/ Plasma event.
Thx
Vex.

Found it because it was announced on this forum.
Much to learn and see.......I'll say! I learnt more in that one day on the subject at hand than anywhere or on any other occasion. Plus, the great thing, I guess, was that nobody was trying to sell or push anything - not at all like a trade show. Everything was set up as well as it could be (ie, to show the best that each device was capable of) and was discussed in pure, absolute, gewnuine (ie, not sales-pitch) terms.
Given the venue (which was less than ideal for the numbers who attended - but then, it was free), the lack of ventilation (due to the need for blackout conditions) on what was a glorious hot sunny day in August - it was, by a long stretch, the best, most informative, day I have ever spent on this hobby.
As for what you'll see and learn about - Gordon has already posted details, and it isn't just CRT/Plasma.

I'll second what Nigel said. I learned more about the video side of the hobby on that hot, sweaty day than I have before or since.
Things like: - Seeing the difference between composite, s-video and component.
- Seeing the differences between scalers/deinterlacers.
- Seeing the differences between half a dozen fixed-panel projectors.
- Seeing the differences between a 7", 8" and 9" CRT projector.
- Understanding some of the theory behind the colours that can be displayed on a device.
.
If there was a BAFTA category for "Best Education Event for AV Enthusiasts", then Gordon should have received it that year. He put in a tremendous amount of effort to produce an excellent event.
I've already said "Yes" to this one, no matter where in the country it is.
Cheers,
Liam

I guess you should be booking your ticket (flight, ferry) now. I've put my name down and looking forward to it. Didn't go to the first one but heard such great things about it and looking forward to this one.

As soon as there is a date and a location, tickets will be booked...

Apart form the viewing and learning experience, it'll be great to actualy meet some of the other forum members.
Stick-on name badges anyone??
Gordon should be easy to spot - the previous pic of him (his avatar) showed that he looked like the spitting image of Beaker from the Muppets....

I think we will be providing stick on badges with real names (or almost real names for those who want to have an air of mystery) and Forum user names.
I am not a muppet. Despite what some folk would have you believe.

Anyone who intimates that Gordon is a muppet should be kept fully informed with accurate details of the date and time, and entirely false details of the venue of the Event 2.

No fooling me Bud, I know exactly where it's being held - and I know the best train routes to Birmingham too - 3rd house on the left past the station and ask for Lisa - see you there.
Gordon wouldn't give me duff info cos he know's I'm just joshing with him.
Besides, I wouldn't dream of intimating that Gordon's a muppet cos he knows more than almost everybody else here put together.
Gary.

Gary. | That certainly seems likely.
