Help please. Sanyo PLV Z3 frozen pink/green stripes picture!

Hi,
The good news is that Sanyo issued a 3 year warranty with these machines and I have got one year left! I spoke to Sanyo about this problem (see enclosed pic) and they asked me to supply as much info the official repairer so that the fault could be quickly found. I am pretty sure now that the fault, which happens say once every 2 months, has something to do with the component input (Sky HD). A week ago, after about 1 hour's use, the screen froze and the control buttons, either on the remote or on the pj itself, wouldn't respond.
The only way to correct the problem was to switch it completely off at the back of the pj. It would then respond normally.
The HDMI input is for the DVD and we have never experienced the fault to date on that setting. In fact, I ran the dvd player for 5 hours solid yesterday through the Z3 without even a glitch! This is why I think it is a component issue. BTW, the TV receives the same signal from the Thomson box and there is nothing wrong with the PQ when the PJ freezes.
If anyone has an idea as to why it does this etc, please let me know.
Kind regards,
Martin
PS the enclosed pic was taken when it froze during Have I got News For You!

Re: Help please. Sanyo PLV Z3 frozen pink/green stripes picture!

Hi,
I had a Sanyo Z3 and had the non-responsive buttons once or twice - after some research I found some information on a US forum. If I recall it was something to do with either a 1080P or 720p (cannot remember which) signal - when I set my kit to output 1080i to the Z3 it never did it again. I believe there is a firmware upgrade which I understand resolves this.

Sorry I have no idea about the funny "green" screen you have experienced.

Hope this helps
Sheks

Thanks Sheks for that info. I know that my Sky HD box is set at 1080i but will check to see what the setting is on the Sanyo Z3. It could be on auto and if so, your theory may well end up being fact! Come to think of it, when I was once messing around with the input settings. isn't the pink/green picture achievable by setting the Z3 to NTSC 1080i whilst the true input is say 576p?
Will have to play around on this tonight. Could explain why the DVD works fine over HDMI if all the settings configure correctly.

Re: Help please. Sanyo PLV Z3 frozen pink/green stripes picture!

Have just checked both my HDbox and my DVD player. The SkyHD was set at 1080i output but the player was on 720p.
Despite the fact that there was no problem with the DVD player on sunday, I have now reset it to 1080i. Interestingly, both times in the past month when the pj froze/greenandpinked on me was after I had watched a dvd and had then switched to the component channel for the Skyhd box.
If it goes wrong again, I will reset both boxes to 720p. If it still faults, then I will know that it is more serious than a firmware update, A dry solder joint perhaps?
