Is my PJ dying?

I have a 5 or 6 year old Panny AE700. It's on the last days of its second bulb and has done about 4000 hours so it's had good run.

For a while there has been an annoying blueish band on the left of the screen about a fifth of the way up. This is only really visible when displaying a PC desktop though so was no big deal. Lately though I have been getting an annoying line appearing when playing video. It seems to be 4-5 pixels wide and runs right across the screen. It's like a blurring, and the image above and below it seem to get out of sync. It appears on any fast moving scene and moves around the screen. I suspect its a dying LCD panel or maybe they becoming misaligned. Anybody ever seen this?

I have my PC hooked up to both my PJ and an LCD screen and there is no sign of it on the LCD, so I don't think its the source that's the problem.

Re: Is my PJ dying?

Sounds like a good reason for an upgrade, I have the same model but no where near those hours, it does sound like misaligned panels though.

I have a very similar problem, except not the horizontal (?) line. I have the blue tinge which is in the bottom left hand corner. Also on my second bulb (first one was replaced by Panasonic after 594 hours) and this one is running at 4776 hours.

From other posts I've read this is an lcd panel issue and a replacement bulb will not fix it. I intend to get a quote to see the cost of fixing but I suspect this might be more than the projector is worth (300-400 quid?). I bought a new bulb about 2 years ago when I figured it would need replaced after 3000 hrs so it has come as a bit of a shock nearly 2000 hrs later that it's still going (the pic is still very strong and bright).

Whilst I'd love to go the upgrade route, it just doesn't come at an appropriate time for me although I will start looking. What's the latest Panasonic?

Once I hear back from Panasonic I'll post what they quote.

Re: Is my PJ dying?

I've got an AE900 - using it as I write in fact!
My screen has a red tinge on the right hand side - gradually gets redder as it goes across.

I'm guessing this isn't fixable without replacing panels etc. It's done 917 hours, almost all on low power. Filter regularly cleaned.

Is it too much to expect this thing to last more than 3 years?

Re: Is my PJ dying?

I use LCD projectors at work and havent had one last >3 years due to the LCD component degrading. Usage doesnt seem to be the issue - some had thousands of hours on, so it does seem an age thing.

For some reason they dont seem to design them to be replaced easily/cheaply.

Someone once told me its the UV from the bulb that actually starts them to degrade.
