Infocus 4805 loses picture.

My Infocus Screenplay 4805 is about 4 years old. It has recently started losing the picture and just showing a screen of "coloured noise". I am using the HDMI adaptor plugged into an Arcam DV-79. The S-Video and composite inputs seem ok. If i unplug the HDMI adaptor and wait a few seconds the picture will re-appear. Any thoughts?

Re: Infocus 4805 loses picture.

Welcome to the forums.

I sent 2 4805s back under warrenty for losing DVI input. The chip that receives the signal is not the most robust when it comes to spiking currents. However I have seen what you describe when using a damaged DVI cable at higher resolutions on my 5700. Both problems were sorted by switching to the RGBHV via the 15 pin Dsub (I have a scaler) which gives a slight loss in clarity but a more film like picture.

My advice; try it with another cable first. Also this range of Screenplays had issues with adapted cables so if you aren't using a built HDMI-DVI cable that should be your first move.

Thanks for the welcome binbag!..I suppose i am lucky that the projector has lasted 4 years without a problem, still on the original bulb. I cant see any damage on the cable and it goes in trunking to the projector, but a new cable seem the cheapest option as RGBHV scalers cost over £200. In the end i suppose i could carryon using S-Video as the difference with my fading eyesight is not that much.

Cheers Jim
