Am I sat to close?

I will be viewing a 92" screen from 3m distance, and due to my room only being 2.8m wide my 3ft high speakers need to be placed UNDER the screen, resulting in the screen almost touching the coving.

Another pain in the ass the PJ will be mounted 3.3m from the screen and there IS NO other place to locate it at this location the smallest screen I can get is a 92". see my troubles?

also having a screen the width of the room mounted higher wont look to hot.

any suggestions or tips?

Re: Am I sat to close?

Hi Cinemachap,

I have a 92" screen and sit about 4.5 m from it, the closest chair is bang on 2.8 meters from eyeballs to screen (directly under the roof mounted HC7000) and it's a terrific spot to sit for an immersive experience (not too big at all) once I get to about 2 meters from the screen, standing up, my head casts a shadow on the screen (OK with letterboxed stuff as can't be seen) but the screen is a little too overwhelming anyway. if I get to .5 - 1 m away I can see flyscreen on bright white areas, but not on colours.

I suspect it's going to depend on your projector, I would guess a 720p will produce more noticeable effects like flyscreen at a 2-3 meter point.

BTW the HC7000 is still dead quiet when sitting directly under it.

edit: p.s. the closer the top of your screen to the roof, the less distortion you are going to get from having to tilt, lens shift, keystone it .... so you can console yourself in having a purer picture than those who can mount their screen in a more traditional vertical location.

Re: Am I sat to close?

I sit 3.3m from my 92" screen and its fine, you might even find that you will want a bigger screen at times.

Not sure how you will find the screen door effect, I'm running a Panny 900 that has smooth screen.

Like Chopsus says, having the screen up there means less manipulation of the lens/picture to get it on your screen correctly. As long as your happy look up at it you will be fine.

Re: Am I sat to close?

A 92" diagonal will give you a screen width of 2.04m so a ratio of 1.5 x screen width should be fine. Lots of threads on this

Re: Am I sat to close?

Im just a little concerned with the room with only being 2.6m the screen is 2.2m wide, and I was hoping to have the screen a bit lower.

I will be using the 720p Infocus X9 PQ Isnt really a concern at the moment.

I have the same setup nearly. Only I can sit around 4m back. My picture is the entire width of the room (8ft) and is above my floor standers, so goes right to the top of the ceiling.

I can't say its ever effected me, but if I were another 1.5m forward it may get a bit front row syndromeish.

Your only options are too get some smaller speakers and lower the screen a bit or get a 1080p PJ with a shorter throw distance and have the screen fit between the speakers.

Or, make sure you have some reclining seats that will naturally put your head in the looking up position.

Re: Am I sat to close?

Ive already ordered my PJ and im limited on budget for 1st PJ, otherwise I would have done.

So baiscally yes I am to close. I dont want it to feel like front row action.

But then if this PJ throws this image at this distance, aint it a little restrictive? especially if the only place it can be put is at the back of the room ?

I said might be too close. I think you will be fine personally. You will just have to get some bean bags or a puffy and lie back and put your feet up so that your not sat looking up all the time.

You could always put your couch on a wooden block to lift it up or something. so its higher

Re: Am I sat to close?

were going to order a very laid back sofa next week. plus I am considering lowering the screen more to the middle of the wall, but this means placing the speakers in each corner, the only problem being the door is in one of these meaning there is no way out without moving the speaker. but i think it will be easyer to watch that way.

Also because im getting a bucket racing seat and that will be low.

Re: Am I sat to close?

This might a totally stupid idea but could you lie your speakers on their side?

You could get a perforated type screen the speakers could go behind?:
UltimateAVmag.com: Screen Research ClearPix2 Acoustically Transparent Front-Projection Screen

I think your worrying about something that won't be that much bother tbh.

Re: Am I sat to close?

screen must be a wall mounted fixed frame.
thanks for the idea!

Cant really see the speakers going sideways

All im worried is that it will look too big, its a small room, the screen is almost the width of the room. plus where only 3m away from the screen

theres only one way to find out. hope theres no screen door

The screen won't be too big and I would be very surprised if there were screen door on a 720p projector.

Relax.
